Yes it's true!. "Balut" is the Philippines name for it though I am not sure what it's called elswhere!. It basically a boiled duck egg except unlike the eggs you are familair with, these are fertilized so they contain embryos!. It is cracked open like regular egg then either salt is added or as they do in Vietnam, fish sauce with chillies then eaten!. It is believed to help those suffering from anaemia!. In the Philippines, they sometimes give them to those who have just donated bloodWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!. They eat the whole baby duckling (chicken eggs are not usually used, duck eggs are)!. Can you imagine boiling that poor thing alive!? It's interesting how people eat all sorts of nasty things!. For example, they refer to the amniotic fluid (inside the egg) as 'soup'!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yep, that is what it is!. They eat it all over Asia!. It's actually a chick that's mostly already formed!. In order to eat it, they have to boil the eggs first!. Actually, I've been to an Asian store that was selling that, but no one bought it so the eggs hatched!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
