Congrats on wanting to become a veg!

You can pretty much eat anything you want, just avoid all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish and crustacean, and slaughter by-products! The main foods include water and drinks, fruits especially berries, dried fruits, pears, bananas, tropical fruits, & watermelon, vegetables especially kelp, kale, dried nori, spirulina, peas, broccoli, potato (with peel), & dark-green leafy vegetables such as spinach, nuts (especially walnuts & almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, etc), beans (black, pinto, baked, kidney, etc), seeds (especially flaxseeds, but also sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, hemp, etc), soy products (tofu, TVP, tempeh, fortified soy milk, miso, etc!.), pulses, whole grains, quinoa, seiten, nutritional yeast, cereals, chickpea, seaweed, lentils, wheat germ, & vegetable, hemp, and flaxseed oils!. Veg*an brand foods such as Amy's, Tofurky, Light Life, Yves, etc have a lot of good food options!. It may be good to also avoid dairy/milk products, there are plenty of alternatives out there!

Well, of course you'll need to avoid all meat if you want to be a vegetarian!. Someone who eats fish isn't a vegetarian!.

If you're new to the concept and think you'll miss your old favorites, there are many meat analogs on the market!. Morningstar Farms carry meatless chicken nuggets, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs and breakfast sausage patties!. There are many other brands of meatless products such as Quorn, Boca, Litelife, etc!. Check your local grocery store to see which items they carry and start trying them out!.

Mexican food is ideal for the vegetarian and the great thing is, Mexican restaurants will gladly substitute beans for beef and chicken!. (Even taco bell will do this for you!. I usually get a nacho cheese chalupa with beans instead of beef if I must eat there)!.

Italian food is another great option as there are a variety of pastas and pizzas made without meat!. also, it's easy to make at home without meat!. I make spaghetti from MorningStar Farms Meal Starters Recipe Crumbles, which is a substitute for ground beef and tastes great! I have been able to fool meat-eaters with this stuff in chili and spaghetti!. There are also meatless chicken and steak strips made by Morningstar farms that can be used in recipes calling for chicken or steak such as fajitas and stir fry!. You can still make all of your favorite recipes with faux meat substitutes!.

Just experiment and if you need some ideas, here are two of my favorite and most enjoyed vegetarian recipes to get you started:

or you can start eating tofu for protein!.
they also sell non meat products in the grocery!.
if you get worried about your health ask your doctor about supplements!.
