Why is it the short term vegetarians/vegans that seem the most forceful?!

Question: Why is it the short term vegetarians/vegans that seem the most forceful!?
I have been a vegetarian all my life, and whilst I have inadvertently converted a few people, I, unlike many short term veggies (people within the two year gap or people who give up vegetarianism) don't go out on the street thrusting leaflets into people's faces!.

Don't get me wrong, I have strong morals!.
I've never eaten meat I was bought up veggie but given the choice-my mum a meat eater my dad a veggie!.

I just don't shout about it as much!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi!

Well, i've been vegan all my life, my parents are vegans too!. But explained me the "2 worlds" so i could make my decision!. And i continue vegan, of course =)

I reckon people are excited about the "new discoveries" and try to tell people what they think is right!. But not everyone knows how to do it and certainly not everyone has the knowledge or 1st hand experience!.

Every person is different, so!.!.!.

Best wishes =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been a vegetarian since I was 9 (I'm now 32)!. I went through a militant stage when I was a teenager because it was all new to me (or possibly just because I was a teenager!) but now I couldn't care less what people eat!. I guess they're people looking for a cause, who think they've invented it!. I believe it's ok to campaign about animal cruelty or farming methods, but never to tell people what to eat (I wish meat eaters would stop thinking it's their business what goes in our mouths and mind their own business, so I'd never do it back)!. I also wish people who eat fish would stop going into restaurants telling the staff they're vegetarian and making it impossible for us real veggies!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think they may be just excited about their new life style choice and feel like they need to share all this new information they have recently discovered!. I bet most people experience some thing similar!. It's often a moral or ethical choice for many, so some are initially passionate and excited about the cause!. After some time and experience I'm sure they tone down their excitment!. That's not to say they are less passionate, just that they know how relay information better without seeming overbearing!. Maybe we can cut the newbies a bit of slack!. =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

New converts to anything are often a little over-zealous, baffled that the world can't see what they now see so clearly!.

This is especially true of the very young new convert!. It can be irritating, but what the hell - if you can't be passionate and idealistic when you're young, when can you!?

I've done my share of leafletting in my time - not for veg*nism or animal rights, I reserve my activism for human rights - and in general I'd much rather see a young person passionate about something than about nothing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's probably because it's nothing new to you!. You've been raised as a vegetarian!. But when people who were raised on meat find out the truth after some many years and go vegetarian they are sometimes angry that nobody told them earlier on and they want to spread the word!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

your use of the word "converted" explains it all!. That word is used almost exclusively when talking about religion!. New converts to any religion are more likely to be zealots!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That’s just people in general!. There should be 5 year rule before you begin actively trying to convert people to your way of thought!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because many of them are teenie boppers that do not yet have the maturity to act civillyWww@FoodAQ@Com

Mostly it's teenage angst!. Look at Nazi Germany!. The most fanatical brual nazis were the hitler youth!. They were still fighting even though hitler was already dead!. Like headless chickens (pardon the analogy) running around with their heads cut off!. In Africa, it's the same thing: the most brutal are teenage soldiers!.

Sometimes it's just a sort of serendipity that most converts want to share!. They think it's a good thing so why not share it!? But that's where the difference lies!. The kids especially here poush theri beliefs!. They are generally intolerant of those who can't seem to grasp their new found knowledge!. But as with teenage soldiers, they are usually the first to cry panic and surrender!. teh adults and the more amture kids,, they educate!. they speak only when asked exhibit a more liberal attitude towards those who don't share their beliefs!. What's worse is theadults who act like kids!.

To be fair, both fanatics can be found on both sides, omnis and vegetarians!. You just tune out both!.

I might visit England next yeat!. If oppurtunity allows, I may try to convert a vegan vodka drinker to single malt scotches!. eh Lo!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
