How do I "burp" beans?!
Eliminating meat from my diet ~ I'm a vegetarian noob ~ has me wanting to use beans as a staple for my new diet!. I love beans ~ but they don't love me unless I burp them!.
It has been years, however and I forget the process which consisted of leaving them in water for a long period of time to remove the element that causes gas!.
What is the process for burping beans!? How long in water, Do I need to add anything else to the water and is there anthing else to this process!?
Peace and many thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, i always soak them overnight with some baking soda and a palmful of salt!. drain and rinse in the morning!. I usually cover the beans with vegetable stock, stewed tomatoes, garlic, onions and whatever seasonings I grab ( I do close my eyes when making spice selections for beans, lol )!. Now, I put in ham and smoked ham hocks, but what the hock!? I guess you can't do that, lolWww@FoodAQ@Com
I used to soak them overnight then change the water before I cooked them--sometimes it worked!.
Now I just add ground ginger to them and cook them whenever I need them without the overnight soak!. Works just as well or better!. I use 1/2 - 1 teaspoon ground ginger per pound of dry beans!. It doesn't seem to affect the flavor!.
I've thought of using raw ginger root but never seem to have it in stock when I want to cook beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you cook with dry beans, soak them in water overnight, then pour off the water and cook the soaked beans in fresh water!. This may reduce the amount of natural sugars in the beans after the cooling process and help prevent gas and bloating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My Grandmother soaked the beans in water overnight with literal "pinch" of baking soda !. In the morning she poured off the water, rinsed the beans and added fresh cold water, then cooked them long and slow!. It made a big difference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Just soak the dried beans and drain the water!.
For lentils and beans I generally will soak and drain them a few times a day for a few days before I cook them, and that does the trick!. Simple!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
