Question: What if my mom says no to being a vegetarian!?!? HELP!!!?
I haven't asked my mom yet, but i want to become a vegetarian!. What if she says no to me being a vegetarian!? Is there a certain way I should ask her!? Thanks in Advance!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Be respectful when telling her (not asking her) that you want to become a vegetarian!. Explain to her why it's important to you, and she should understand and support your decision!. If she doesn't support your decision, then you can make your own food, it's not like she can force feed you meat!. It's not up to her weather you can become a vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If your mom says no it's because she loves you and has concerns for your health!. They may be good concerns, or they may be silly concerns based on false information!. Be sure you are informed on the decision you are making so she can see you have thought it through carefully!. Make an appointment for the two of you to talk to a doctor about it together!. Let her know you respect and appreciate her opinion!. Do everything you can to keep the conversation calm and open, and not an argument!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want to be a vegetarian that is great but it is important to still keep yourself healthy!. If you can do this your mom will probably be okay with being a vegetarian!. Most vegetarians do not get enough iron which can lead to problems like becoming anemic and feeling sick and woozy so it is good to take Iron pills every day!. also, just try to let your mom knows that this is important to you and hopefully she will understand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well!.!.!.!. maybe you can show her meal plans so she can see that you will still be eating healthy and getting all your nutrients!.!.!.all mothers worry about this!

She might also worry that she will have to cook you a seperate meal from the rest of the family and that can be costly!. Show her it won't be!.

Just do your research, so that you will be prepared when presenting it to her!. Maybe, make a deal with her!. ASk her to let you try it for a month and see how it works!.

Open communication is key!.

I have an infant (18 months) and he HATES meat! I don't force the issue, as he's a picky eater as it is and this might just be a phase!. I make sure he gets his protein though! If he decides he wants to be a vegetartian when he's a teenager, I'll respect that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Explain to her WHY you wanted to be a vegetarian (to save to animals, etc!.) and then if she stilllllll doesn't understand, say you wanna try it for a week and prove to her you can still be healthy and get the correct amount of protein by requesting garbanzo beans/hummus, nuts, tofu and other healthy stuff!. Maybe she always thinks of people who are vegetarians as those who just like to eat unhealthy, snacky food, but if you can prove her wrong, i'm sure she'll change her mind!Www@FoodAQ@Com

A better question would be is there a certain way you should become a vegetarian!. If you want to be taken seriously by your mother then go about it slowly and maturely!. Tell her that you would like to eat more vegtables and fruits and even try new ways of preparing them (what mom can say no to that!?) but don't just make her do more work!. Offer to help!. There are millions of vegetarian recipes online!. It might help to start with introducing some side dishes that everyone can eat such as mushroom dishes or spaghetti squash!.

Then cut back slowly, over the period of a six months to a year eat less and less meat and then tell her that you are interested in cutting back on meat almost all together and have alternative sources of protein!.

Show her some information on the health benefits, which is also very easy to find online!.

I think that if you take your time and show her that it is not just an impulse as well as put in the effort to help her with shopping and cooking, then she will actuallly be supportive!. Besides, there is no reason why you couldn't take your time, it will actually help you develop a taste for it!.

I was vegetarian for a year when I was in junior high!. I just lost my appetite for meat!. Then one day I smelled a chicken pot pie and I wanted to eat it!. So I did, and I ate meat again!. My parents were very supportive!. they just wanted to make sure I was healthy!. There are a lot of meat substitutes!. Eat your beans, vegi burgers!. I still ate milk and eggs!. I wasn't vegan!.
When you tell your mom just let her know that you will make sure that you are going to eat healthy!. Make meal plans with her!. Help her cook dinners, so that there will be something for you to eat that doesn't have meat!. That was the hardest for my parents!. When they had hamburgers (or any meat), they had to make sure I had something too!. I bet she will be understanding!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i agree with some of these comments already posted!.!.!.im not a vegetarian but im sure that by talking it over with your parents and making sure they know what you'll be eating and that your not going to go overboard just to loose weight or whatever!.!.!.they SHOULD be ok with it!. its not like your going to STOP eating altogether either!. i dont see the problem!.!.!.however do research and make sure your parents know everything there is to know about being a vegetarian!. good luck with your mission!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just ask her, but do your research first!. Know what foods you can replace with meat or anyother animal by product!. Get your terminology down also, KNOW what you are talking about!. Other than that I dont see how your mom would make you eat meat, lol!.
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

when i first told my dad 3 years ago he flipped but than he was cool !. i think your mom will be OK with your decision !. like some of the other posts, i think you should make some meal plans before you tell her so she knows you know what you are doing!. i hope it works i think you be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Present her with all the facts!. Find all sorts of information on vegetarianism and compile a booklet for her to read!.

Tell her you will help with the cooking and stick with it!.

If she says no, she can't force you to eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I dont think your mom will say no if she loves you and will support you!. I dont see any harm it will do!. It may not be a healthy diet but as long as you are serious about it, im sure she will let you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

do some research!. before you ask your mom do some research and make sure your informed and then she might see that its osmething you really want to do because you know a lot about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If she says no, eat your meat until you are out on your own!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, I don't think she can just force meat down your throat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
