Do you think protein from animal sources is overrated?!

Question: Do you think protein from animal sources is overrated!?
I asked this in the Diet and Nutrition section and go 3 No's and 1 Yes!. I'm sure I'll be biased in this section, but I wanted your opinions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It depends on what you mean exactly!.

Yes, of course meat is an ample source of protein!. But the idea that many people have that it's the end all, be all of protein sources is just wrong!.

Animal proteins come packaged with saturated fats and cholesterol, and no fiber or phytonutrients!. Plant proteins come packaged with heart-healthy fats, fiber, beneficial phytonutrients, and no cholesterol!.

The argument that animal proteins are complete and plant proteins aren't is also misleading because, unless one is subject to famine conditions and forced to survive on a single dietary source of protein, it's irrelevant!. Good nutrition requires a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds anyway, for nutrients beyond protein, and if we're accomplishing that the completeness of any one protein source is not necessary!. Even meat eaters aren't getting their protein ONLY from meat!.

So, yeah, it's overrrated if by overrated you mean that people in general think it's vital, necessary or even "superior!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sort of!.

Animal sources are a hefty source of protein, no doubt about it!. But, lots of baggage comes with this protein in terms of health, morals, and price!.

In contrast, I think that vegetarian sources of protein are UNDERRATED in that most people immediately assume that vegetarians and vegans are lacking in proteins!.

"I'm sure I'll be biased in this section" You'll get biased results in any section, veggie or not!. While vegetarians may not choose to eat meat, their views about it are usually much more based in fact and research than the converse; a meat-eaters view of veggie protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That depends what you mean by over rated!.

I believe that when plant foods are scarce, then animal protein can be adaptive and prevent nutrition deficits in the short term!. However, if plant proteins are abundant, then animal proteins are obsolete, and consuming them in any kind of large quantities cause problems!.

The diseases we have now for example are in large part a direct result of consuming far too much animal proteins, when plant proteins are available which are complete, healthier, better for the environment, and more ethically sound!.

Vegans are often provoked with questions like "if you were on a desert island you'd eat meat"

But that's the point!. Humans are not meant to live on desert islands, nor are we designed to eat large amounts of animal proteins without increased risk of problems!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not only is it overrated, but it is IRRESPONSIBLE that it keeps getting perpetuated in various circles!. It's a myth that consumption of alot of protein is great and healthy for the body, and animal protein is very complex and in breaking it down, there are by-products like uric acid which can wreak havoc with the body!. All plant foods contain various amounts of protein and they are enough to sustain our health! The dis-eases that often occur (osteoporosis and gout, for example) are directly related to a heavy diet of protein!. Protein acidifies the body, which spells disaster!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm glad that one person is genius enough to call ESPN!.com a vegan propaganda site!. Who knew that you could be so pathetic and know more than anyone else at the same time!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I’d say animal source proteins are only overrated for animals that aren’t equipped to process them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

krister what i find even funnier is that you slag them for doing that then you do it yourself!.!.!.saying yes then quoting pro vegan sites!.!.!.!.!.!.of course they will say it is!.!.!.!.!.!.i mean pro smoking sites will say smoking is good!.!.!.!.does that mean its true!?!?!?

animal proteins from lean cuts of free range meats are very good for you and have very little fat or cholestorol!.!.!.!.chicken for example is very nutrious!.!.!.!.prove me wrong

now also!.!.!.if vegans and vegetarians are healthier and we meat eaters are fat slobs as you say we are!.!.!.then surely every veggie or vegan would be a world class athlete!.!.!.!.!.why is it that 90% of all world class athletes still eat meat!?!?!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

no !.!.!.!.!. Just read all the questions from people who are ignorant about how to add protein to a vegetarian diet, and feel tired all the time!. Obviously it's easier to eat some meat, in moderation, to get protein for alot of people!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No I do not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No I don't think it is overrated at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
