Lacto vegetarianism?!

Question: Lacto vegetarianism!?
I'm currently a lacto-ovo vegetarian!. I'm interested in becoming a lacto vegetarian sometime later this year/early next year (really as soon as my parents are convinced), and i was just wondering how much more difficult is it, in comparison to lacto ovo!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan and I can tell you milk is a whole lot harder to avoid than eggs (manufacturers add whey to practically everything!.)

Most dry pasta is just enriched semolina flour and water, but you'll have to read labels since there *could* be egg in there (some of the flavored ones, like spinach, have eggs!.)

Most bread is made without eggs, so you should have no trouble there!.

And there are lots of egg substitutes you can use in baking to make your own cookies, etc if you can't find ones you like without eggs!.

If you like scrambled eggs, you can make scrambled tofu instead!. If you like fried eggs, you're out of luck, but that's a sacrifice you're apparently willing to make!.

I would think the transition would be relatively easy, as long as you're willing to do the label reading involved!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most of India is lacto-vegetarian!. So, on the surface, it may seem that it must be easy!. In reality it is not that easy!.
In India, majority of population used to cook at home and it was easy to avoid eggs!. Now, they don't!. They just ignore the fact that the commercial foods such as baked cakes and pastries may have egg in them!. Strict Hindus would still cook at home and avoid eating these items!.
You can start by avoiding visible egg preparations, for example boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelets etc!. Then go by avoiding sauces and mayonnaise!. It will be a long journey, a hard journey!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pasta made with eggs!? What kind of pasta!? Here in Italy the classical pasta (spaghetti for example) is suitable too for vegans!. But yes, there is too pasta made with eggs which is a particular kind of it!.

Removing eggs from your diet cannot be easy, but there a lot of alternative of foods without!. You have to read the ingredients behind every product : )

The only annoying tedious part of not eating eggs is that you can't just go out and eat a muffin or cookie!. So make sure that you find some really great recipes (try vegcooking!.com and theppk!.com)
You also need to look out for mayonnaise!.
Pasta generally doesn't have eggs!. Some veggie burgers do though!.

But it gets much easier!. There are a large range of biscuits, cookies, mayonnaise, cake mixes etc!. that don't contain eggs and are easy to find in supermarkets!. I don't know about all soft pretzels, but the ones at pretzel world don't have eggs!.

For cake mixes, try substituting a banana, 1/4 cup blended tofu, applesauce, cornflour or yogurt for 1 egg!.

Good luck =DWww@FoodAQ@Com

Avoiding eggs isn't as simple as it might first appear!. There are eggs in all sorts of things especially bakery items, cakes, pastries, even some bread!. Pasta and noodles are often made with eggs too!. To follow a strict lacto-vegetarian diet you'd need to be constantly on the look out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It requires you to be obsessed with what might be an ingredient in many foods!. It seems to me to be an exercise in self flagellation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
