Do some Animal rights campaigners, give the world of animal rights a bad name?!
I’ve been a veggie for 7 years of my life and I made the decision to become a veggie because I didn't want to eat animals!. I believe in animal rights and think it’s great that there are other people/charities/organisations out there striving to make others aware of issues and rights concerning animals!. BUT there are some campaigners who make level headed individuals who support the cause look like nabby pamby emotional mentalists!.
For example:
Five live had a radio phone in around the time of Hugh Fernley Whittingstall battery hen campaign!. They invited different people to the show to discuss their views on cheap chicken and battery farming!. The first half of the show involved a discussion with two farmer’s one organic one battery, and a woman who was campaigning for the plight of chickens everywhere!. As the discussion went on the farmers both spoke calmly and collectively with good points and arguments for each of their causes!. The animal rights campaigner however went mental shouting over the farmers telling the battery farmer he was a murder etc I think at one point she was crying! Listening to her was making me cringe!. It made me annoyed that a woman that was speaking for the side of the argument I believed in made it all sound like a complete farce!. Does any one else agree it would be nice once in a while to have those speaking on behalf of animal rights to do it calmly and smoothly instead of their emotions carrying them away !?

I'm afraid that some people feel it is important to show everyone how "passionate" we are by yelling over everyone else!.
She really could have made a big difference but instead she just made herself and many others look like fools!.
She should be ashamed of herself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My only interaction with any of the "animal activists" is here and the occasional KFC protester on the evening news!. So most definitely the radicals give your cause a black eye in my opinion!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
They just too much of emotional over the way animals were treated, just like your own children!. Could you ever empathize this!? You would not!. I think this phrase made you pretty clear enough!.
Have u ever tried any Animal rights campaigns anyway!? Why not!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

PETA's new add campaign when they are going to directly compare a recent high profile murder by a deranged man to the slaughter of animals is in pretty poor taste!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

No more than any other extreme element of a group but I think it's magnified out of proportion by the media who take a mostly right-wing approach to matters such as this!. The media portrays certain groups in one way to get across their political message or the politics of those who fund their newspaper/radio/TV show!. In the case you've highlighted it seems that someone or some people who fund Five don't like animal rights campagners and want to portray all those people in the same way!.
There are extreme pockets of people in every group but some are focussed upon more than other and animal rights extremeists are one of those groups who're concentrated on more than others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am an animal activist and I, like many others, protest and campaign calmly because I/we know that violence solves nothing!.
Yes, some do let their emotions rule but then again so do individuals!.
One of many examples:
The violent and emotional outbursts of spectators that hang around prisons hoping to throw insults and rotton eggs at the paedophile on his way to court!. Are these viewed as violent mentalists !.!.!.!.!. no, but they should be!. Should we condemn them!? Some would say we should and some would say we shouldn't!. We all hate paedophiles but its not good showing up and being violent about it!. These people give parents a bad name!.
There are 'emotional mentalists' in every single cause/situation not just animal rights !.!.!.!. but its always animal rights that gets a bad name!.
I hope that you have read this in the calm and sensible manner it was intended!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think the whole concept of animal rights is ridiculous!. In order for an individual to have rights, that individual must also have responsibilities, otherwise they are privileges!. Animals don't have rights because animals don't have responsibilities!.
I agree that animal cruelty is wrong, but to put animals on the same moral level as humans is silly!. The anecdote about the animal rights activist demonstrates how the whole "animal rights" movement is based on emotion and hysteria, not logic and moral reasoning!. I can't imagine any rational person getting so upset over chickens!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Since you said "some" I would have to agree!. I will also explain a situation, please consider it is not meant as a debate on vegetarianism, that is an individual choice!.
In my area a deeply agricultural community activists were very uninformed and vocal at a hearing!. The discussion was farrowing crates for hogs!.
Farrowing crates are a very small, somewhat constrictive pen in which a female pig gives birth to and nurses her litter of piglets!. This is used to prevent the 300lb!. or more sow from sitting on and crushing her young!. I have seen the crushed young and they usually die slowly if not found immediately!. In a perfect world with heirloom breeds giving birth in natural conditions it is not a problem!. In current high volume breeds and facilities crushed young is a very real fact of life!.
The crate is not inhumane, the fact that these hogs never see daylight is the issue, but no one brought that up!. The care is the abuse, not the pens!. None of the activists were informed enough to know that!.
Once a 300 lb!. animal starts to lay down it is not dainty nor delicate, they cannot keep track of their often 12+ piglets, even though hogs are intelligent!.
To make a long story short, the activists made a HUGE scene at a hog producer meeting trying to make the crates illegal!. Their argument and defense was simply " a momma would never hurt her babies"!. This opinion was not based on fact or research whatsoever!. It is impossible to have a sane debate with irrational and illogical people!.
If they want to advocate vegetarianism, want to advocate free range production or even advocate that farmers grow more veggies, fine!. Trying to change an ages old system by spewing and shouting opinions based in ignornace is not the way to do it!.
No one ever listens to people who rant until spittle comes flying out and their veins pop out of their neck, doesn't matter what the message is!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would be skeptical of any radio or tv program that has an animal rights activist on, because they try to get the loudest, most annoying people for their shows!. The government-controlled media is obsessed with putting down vegetarians/vegans and/or animal rights activists for being extremist and terrorist, which is often not the case!.
I wouldn't blame animal activists for giving "the world of animal rights a bad name!." I would blame the media's portrayal of them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Agree!. As soon as the shouting and the hysterics start, people stop listening!. Calling people all sorts of names is not a good way to get them on your side
We don't see too many animal rights activists or protests here on the farm!. As soon as they start gathering, the locals throw rocks at them or chase them with machetes and what-have-you!. That's because the protesters are mostly from the city and don't have a clue!. One poor soul tried to protest a KFC and got arrested for disturbing the peace!. And people cheered when they took him away!. PETA tried the "naked celebrities" thing to but folks just had their picture taken with the naked celebs, or asked for autographs but ignored the PETA speaker or pamphlets they tried to give out!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You get nutters in all walks of life!. Although they're usually the minority, they get themselves noticed by being loud and bizarre!.
We also have a stigma in the UK because between the IRA decomissioning their arsenal and the war in Iraq, the government had to find new terrorists to target in order to justify their massive budget on secret service and military operations!. Animal Rights activists played nicely into their hands as it allowed Blair's mob to claw back support after being pressured into keeping their pre-election promise of banning hunting and animal testing on cosmetics!.!.!.

your point is probrably my only irk about Animal Rights campaigners!.
I firmly believe that you only need to shout for one of two reasons!. 1) if there's a lot of noise!. (ie in a factory)!. 2) if you can't argue eloquently!.
often on radio / TV shows, the producers are biased towards one point of view!. see if i was hosting the same debate, i'd get an eloquent organic farmer and activist, and have the battery farmer stupid and loud!. Makes my argument seem better, huh!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
