Are cooking inventions the cause of my depression?!
First: A black and white commercial fades in some obviously brainless woman holding a pot, pasta, cutting board, who knows what else all in her arms and walking across the kitchen only to drop them all on her stove!. Then a voice muttering something along the lines of "are you too brainless to make pasta!?" while showing the same woman reaching in a pot of boiling water to test the state of the pasta!.
THEN! The invention that will make it all better!

Oh it's sooo crazy! I'm guessing you're english!? Have you seen the pre-made mashed potato in Marks and Spencers!? It's about ￡2! As far as the gadgets go, kitchen gadget sell really well, even the pointless ones (to people who think they can't cook) so inventors try to think of a cooking process that there isn't a gadget for just as a money making scheme!.
