Why are vegetarians skinny?!

Question: Why are vegetarians skinny!?
I know not ALL of them are, and it doesn't necessarily make you lose weight right away (you have to do it gradually)!. Part of the reason I became vegetarian was to lose weight!. Is this because they eat more vegetables or because meat is fattening!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Meat and fat isn't fattening - starch and sugar are fattening!. Dr!. Atkins pretty much proved that and follow up studies have backed up his findings!.

Remember that early humans ate a diet that was about 50% meat!. In some cases - e!.g!. the Inuit - it is closer to 100%!. As humans left the forests for the grasslands, we had fewer opportunities to eat fruit and started eating more meat!. On the plus side, our meat heavy, omnivorous diet is why we were able to evolve the brains we have today over 2!.5 million years - even if we don't always use them!.

I think vegetarians are skinny because they they are careful about their diets and watch what they eat!. Many vegetarians make sure to eat whole grains and natural, unprocessed foods!. However they may also be skinny because they are malnourished!. A person following a paleo/Atkins diet - heavy on meat and fat and fruits and veggies, no starch or sugar - will also be slender, while a veg*n eating a ton of pasta, rice, bread and potatoes will be fat AND malnourished!. And let's not talk about the results of the standard American diet of fried crap and soda!.

Skinny != fit!. I've known a few veg*ns who were skinny and they did not look healthy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

because they don't eat fat! hahah jk that was mean!. well personally, since going vegetarian i have lost some weight!. i feel amazing; better than ever!.!.!. i think it definitely depends on the person and their body!. for example, i stopped eating meat because i wasn't feeling ell and i endured constant stomach aches!. i stopped eating meat, lost weight and started to feel better!. i guess my body was developing a negative reaction to meat and as also gaining weight because of it!. but for some people, i think meat does something good for their body!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's because the majority of them try to eat healthier!.

Humans are supposed to be skinny, i!.e!. not fat!.
That would be like asking, "Why are horses skinny!?"
Because that's the way they are supposed to be -- being overweight is not natural!. But getting exercise, and eating more naturally, you will automatically go to your natural weight!. Drink beer, eat junk food, do no exercise, and you just may gain weight, i!.e!. fatWww@FoodAQ@Com

they're not skinny, sorry!. you'll put on weight if you eat a lot of carbohydrates like bread pasta etc!. i recommend you eat a balanced diet including meat!. try some vegetarian recipes though, that include green vegetables; couldnt hurt!. and a good healthy diet that includes meat IS superior to a good vegetarian diet!. regardless of what some people say!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Meat is not necessarily fattening!. I'm a veg@n and I wouldn't call myself skinny, i'm normal sized!. i was normal sized before and i'm normal sized now!. Just cause i'm a veg@n doesn't automatically mean i'm going to lose weight, or i'm going to be skinny!. You have to work to lose weight, veg*n or meat eater!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegan and I'm fat!. I was fat before I went vegan and I'm still fat!.!.!.just because a person is vegetarian or vegan it doesn't automatically mean they will be skinny!.
