I'm a bit concerned about getting B12 since I became vegan...?!

Question: I'm a bit concerned about getting B12 since I became vegan!.!.!.!?
I would prefer to get it just from my diet and not with supplements!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended!.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12!.

Then you need to eat fortified foods!. Check the nutritional panel on the foods you eat!. Lots of vegan-specific foods are fortified (like faux meats and soy milks!.) You can also use nutritional yeast in or on your food for a rich source!.

You should know, though, that there is no reliable source outside of fortified foods and supplements!. The B12 added to fortified foods IS a form of supplementation, so there's really no effective difference between selecting a bunch of fortified foods and taking a supplement!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

B12 is only found in meat and other food you preferred to not eat!. you can fulfill your B12 need by consuming supplements or enriched products!. there's no other way to get B12 if you don't prefer consuming B12 produced by yeast fermentation!.
Actually if you live in Indonesia, you can still get B12 by eating tempe (or sometimes spelled tempeh, which is not quite right)!. tempe which is a fermented soy beans naturally don't contain B12!. But, due to poor personel hygiene in tempe making industry in indonesia, sometimes tempe is contaminated (but a beneficial contamination) by other microorganism other than the usual one which is Rhizopus fungi!. this other microorganism eventually produce B12 in tempe, thus Indonesian (poor hygiene standard) tempe contain B12!.
Funny thing is that these fact was once published by Indonesian scientist and was later tried by european scientist!. the european scientist did the fermentation process in a sterile way and in the end didn't get any B12 substance in the resulted tempe!. eventually the previously published journal is withdrawn!. Only animal products have B12, so you either have to supplement (and sublingual supplements are best) or eat it in fortified foods!. Your body can store B12 very well, and you need very little, so if you don't get your RDA on one day, it's not a tragedy!.

I know of a vegan chewing gum that has B12!. I guess chewing it gives you B12!.

Nutritional yeast is another great source of B12!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is a concern, but you'll not get B12 deficiency as long as you are just a little careful!.

I have B12 in yeast extract, you can also get it in a range of fortified products, such as breakfast cereals!.

I have this little theory that humans eat too much B12, and it robs their body of the ability to produce it themselves!. About 2 or 3 decades worth of B12 is stored in the liver, and long-term vegans seem to be able to produce it themselves!. But don't just go on this:

Here's what the Vegan Society have to say about B12!.

I hope this helps!

you don't need suppliments if you're eating fresh produce!.

RE:

besides, vegans can't have suppliments!.!. (IE: the animal biproduct in most products)

why would you need suppliments!? fruits and veggies alone give you more than your daily recommended allowance of what you need!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you really dont need to worry about b12 problems because we only really need a little bit of it in our bodies its easy to get go to a doctor or the vegan sites others have recommended but its nothing you really have to worry about as long as your eating healthy and balanced you will be just fine Www@FoodAQ@Com

DIscover the joys of Nutritional yeast!. IT's yummy!. Sprinkle it on your popcorn!.!. put it in your scrambled tofu,

It's chock full of B12

So is marmite, vegemite, any of those things!.!. they make great flavoring for soups, stews, and gravies!.!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I mostly get my b12 from my cereals I eat with my fortified rice milk!. It's also in those fake meats if you like those!. I hear it's in a few plant sources as well but i'm not sure what veggies have it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
