There is absolutely nothing in meat and dairy and you can't get elsewhere!.
Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12!.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended!.

It may help you if you see proof that vegetarians have the same potential as anyone else!.

If you need meat or dairy during any stage of your life or to any certain lifestyle, why does the American Dietetic Association say otherwise!?

If you want to be a vegetarian you need to really get smart and come up with a plan about what your going to eat!. 1 thing to do is get protein, which is hard when you don't eat meat!. You can get protein from beans, tofu, and imitation meat!. You also need iron!. Spinach has tons of Iron, and so do beans, nuts, kale, and many more greens!. If your moms worried about making meatless dinners, 1 thing I've found is that your mom could make a meat dish and put extra veggies on the side for you!. Or you could offer to make your dinners!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Your mother is wrong!. I am sorry to say this, but your mother is "brainwashed" by the media and meat and dairy industries!. You do not need to worry about protein!. The protein from greens is way more powerful than from meat!. Where does your mother think meat gets it protein from!? From the greens the animal eats!
Anyway, I know what you are going through!. My sister thinks the same way as your mother!. Then again, my sister has never actually educated herself on the matter!. Get your mother some books on the subject from the library!. Have her actually read them!. Only after your mother has educated herself properly, should she spout off her mouth!.
Be proud!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Okay, here it is!.
I'm 15, became a vegetarian June 25!.
AND I just became vegan today!.
EVERYONE will bother you about protein, but as Americans, we really don't need that much protein, an average person who eats meat already gets wayyyy too much protein!.
You would probably only need about 30 grams a day, and just one serving of peanut butter already has like 10 grams, so don't listen to those people!. You can get ANYTHING with just as much protein and vitamins in it!.!.
Ask her to take you to a nutritionist or something if you doesn't thing you can do it,!. Just eat healthy, you know!?
If you are going to be a vegetarian you can still drink milk and stuff!.!.!.
Vegans don't consume any animal products!.
Plus meat and stuff is really dirty and not good for you at all!.
Watch this with your mom!.

Ask your mom if she's ever heard of kwashiorkor!. I'm sure she hasn't!. That's a disease of protein deficiency, and it's all but unheard of in industrialized nations!. Even vegans get more protein than they need!. As long as you get enough calories, and they aren't mostly junk food, you should be fine!.
Not to mention, too much protein strips calcium from your bones and can harm your kidneys!.
If you're worried about being underweight, eat plenty of avocados and nuts, which are good sources of healthy fats!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First of all, thank you for caring about the animals!
You'll hear stuff like "where do you get your protein!?!" from most people!. However, most people in the UK and the USA actually eat too much protein!. And you don't hear them being so concerned about nutrition when it comes to their own diet!. I bet no-one was this worried about you before you even thought about it, huh! :D Too much protein is damaging, it can dehydrate you, lower CHO intake, damage the kidneys and liver, make it much harder to use calcium and won't actually increase muscle strength or tone without adequate exercise!.
Parents, especially, seem to be scared of vegetarianism and veganism!. My mother, who is obese, has high blood pressure, cholesterol and can't work because her leg might need amputating (made seriously worse by alcohol and bad food) always tells me she worries about what I eat!. But she didn't seem concerned before, or about herself!.
Being a vegetarian or a vegan is very healthy, provided you do it right, which isn't hard!. There's nothing in meat and animal products that you can't get elsewhere!. Vegetable protein is far 'cleaner' for your body, and won't deprive you of calcium!. Calcium, iron etc!. are obtained fairly easily, and of course, you'll get a lot more vitamins because you'll probably be eating more fruit, which is never a bad thing!.
http://www!.vegansociety!.com/food/nutriti!.!.!.
Here's a link to the Vegan Society's pages on nutrition!. On that page, you'll find lots of links to pages on protein, iron, vitamin B12 etc!. within the text!. There's a lot of valuable information on there, including which foods are highest in what nutrients!.
I hope this helps!
