Serious question!? OK, serious answer:

The etymology of the word barbecue doesn't involve meat at all; and the part of the word you suggest might be changed does not mean meat!.

The word refers to the structure, rather than any specific food cooked on it!.

The origin is Spanish - barbacoa - 'wooden frame on posts' !. The word has evolved to mean 'an outdoor meal at which food is grilled on a rack over an open fire, or a strucure for grilling food at such an event'!.

So the word barbecue is appropriate whether you are cooking steak, fish, corn on the cob, tofu kebabs or pineapple!.

There's no Q in the word by the way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A BBQ can be taken either as a noun or a verb!. As a noun, it's a outdoor cooking vessel and as a verb, it's cooking on the outdoor vessel!. I BBQ veggies all the time!. There is nothing in the word BBQ that suggests cooking meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, its still called a barbecue (not barbeque)!. We just don't eat meat!. Barbecue is a type of sauce, not a type of meat!. Barbecue is a generic word for cookout and doesn't need to be changed regardless of what's on the menu!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They actually have meatless burgers that you can cook on the grill and things like that!. You can usually find meals for vegitarians and vegans in heath stores!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have barbecues and just use veggies instead of meat!. Barbecue doesn't mean meat; it's a way of cooking!. Same as roasting or frying!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah!.!.!. but I like to call them anti - ques (anti meat)

I enjoy some fried vegetables, tofu burgers and vege patties on a hot summers day!.

With veggie burgers and non meat entrees!.

Yeah, that sounds about right!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sure they have too!. Like sweet potato ques and others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

its still called a bbq you morons!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
