Vegetarian sources of protein that are complete (i!.e!. have all the essential amino acids in them) are rare, though research shows you can get enough through eating a variety of vegetarian foods!. Tofu, tempeh, miso and other soy products, ans spirulina, have complete proteins!.

Other sources of protein can be combined (though it doesn't actually have to be at one meal, as new research shows !.!.!. I find it easy and natural when cooking to do so, and it adds more for flavour and variety) to give you a complete protein intake:

Combine 2 or 3: grains, pulses (beans & legumes), nuts & seeds

Examples: corn tacos with chilli beans, lentil & rice curry, almond butter on toast

First of all, there's no such thing as pesco-vegetarian; it's a contradiction in terms!. Vegetarians do not eat fish or any other sea creatures!.

Now, about protein!. The problem is not getting enough protein, the problem is most people get too much protein!. As long as you eat enough food, and you don't eat mostly junk food, you're getting enough protein!. Ask your doctor if s/he's ever treated a case of protein deficiency!. In fact, too much protein causes you to lose calcium, something you do not want!.

Beans, nuts, tofu, tempeh, seitan are all good sources of protein!.

As someone pointed out, iron is a concern!. Greens, beans, blackstrap molasses and dried fruits are good sources!. Make sure you eat lots of foods rich in vitamin C to help absorption!.

Hmm!.!.!.okay, I guess chicken is out for you then, too!. :) Do you like fish!? Fish has a lot of protein and so do soybeans (which are fabulous in a salad) and most beans (chick peas, red beans, etc!.) What you can do, if I may suggest, check out the Weight Watchers website (not suggesting you need it), but you can get a lot of good protein ideas from there since you seem to be a vegetarian!. Hope this helps!

Modified to add: oh, excuse me, I got a thumbs down, apparently someone didn't like my answer!. Get over it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I pretty much live on tofu, its pretty flavorless, so you can flavor it to be almost anything!. Beans have lots of protein, and I found a pasta called Barilla Plus, that is half bean, half wheat!. It sounds gross, but it's really good, I didn't know it had beans in it for about a year until I read the ingredients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

just to let you know, it is going to be very difficult to get proper nutrition without eating meat!. i knew a vegetarian who got sick b/c well something to do with being a vegetarian!. she had to learn to cook meat!. good luck!. i would not advise you cut out all meat!. How do you feel about fish for example!? then of course there is all of the legumes, beans, and whey protein!. no idea what a pesco vegetarian is, sorry!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
