Answers:
Of course it does, how would it not!? You are not eating the animals therefore they are not being killed as there is no need for those animals!.

I have been a vegetarian all my life and i have recently done lots of research into the matter and found that one vegetarian saves something like 100 animals per year!. this comes from the peta2 website!.

also just incase you are interested - being a vegetarian doesn't just save animals lives, but also much pain and torture!. Most killing factories don't abide to the laws that should apply to them!. Being a vegetarian is an amazing thing you can do for animals, and the ENVIRONMENT! Livestock uses 1/3 of our water, next to things like agriculture and industry so in places like Australia, vegetarians are actually saving water to, its quite funny actually!. I'm sure all of the animals thank you, and I do to!.

For all those idiots out there that think that it doesn't save lives - what do you think that people eat more meat when someone becomes vegetarian so it all evens out!? I think people are very discriminatory against us - why do you want me to eat meat so much!? I'm not pushing my beliefs on you!.!.!.!? If I didn't like to eat mushrooms would you feel the same!? How does it affect you!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

My understanding is that vegetarians adopt that particular eating habit for either or both of 2 reasons, that being the disgust of eating an animal that was once live and the adoption of healthier eating patterns!.
I'm presuming your principal concern is the saving of animals!.
Data is hard to come by, and the % of vegetarians in different countries varies greatly, but figures suggest worldwide 2!.5 to 3% of the population are vegetarians!.
You can conclude from this that 2!.5 to 3% fewer animals are being killed to provide food

Yes and no!. They are saving a few animals, since people still eat them, but with less meat eaters, more meat gets spoiled, so it's between saving some animals or letting others die in vain to rot at the bottom of the deli!.

Kind of like when people say they're "saving" the environment by getting cars with less gas mileage!. They're not actually saving the environment, if they were they'd be riding bikes, planting trees, and cleaning the land around them!. Instead they're putting one car in a scrap heap and polluting the earth instead of the atmosphere!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You save the animals that would've been slaughtered to feed YOU!. As the Buddha has said, he even accepted meat as long as it wasn't slaughtered to feed HIM!.!.!. if it was leftovers or something he would not complain, however in today's world, animals are treated horribly to feed, clothe, and cover our feet, as well as the people who are generally paid a tiny amount for ridiculously hard work to do it all for us, like the big "box" stores, such as Wal-Mart!. Those lower prices come with another price!.

Basically choosing to not consume any sentient being (which covers meat, insects, creatures of the oceans and waterways and any other sentient being, and becoming an activist, to whatever degree you humanly can FOR animals and people who are maltreated to feed our faces and clothe our bodies is VIRTUOUS!.

Caps were for emphasis only, not shouting!. Ah my life for a italics button for in here!.

il answer this quite simply!.!.!.you have 1000 people!.!.!.950 eat meat 50 dont!.!.!.the animals get slaughtered to feed about 900 of the 1000 consistanly!.!.!.therefore 50 not eating meat means that the same number of animals will get killed!.!.!.!.!.!.

they dont kill animals by demand as such!.!.!.a supermarket says we want 1000 chickens!.!.!.the farmer kills 1000 chickens even if they all dont get eaten they are still being killed!.!.!.!.!.5% of the population not eating meat is like saying 5 people and a football stadium deciding not to go to the match!.!.!.!.!.!.simply others will take thier placeWww@FoodAQ@Com

well actually, no, if the whole world was vegetarian they woild be less animals! because the main reason we keep animals like chicken and cows is to kill them to eat them, if nobody ate them, the farmers wouldnt need to breed them, so being a vegetarian actually means there a less animals!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No animals are bred for the market
how many animals are killed depends on the market!.
you cannot save what has not been born!.

Animals in the wild is another story ,Apart from the hunters
they are killed by so called human progress!.irrespective of peoples diet!.

but every meat eater less
means less customers to cause animals to be raised for slaughter,http://byderule!.multiply!.com/journal/ite!.!.!.
earthlings

so less domestic animals would be created
Meat eaters are responsible for much more animals being around

At least you are not taking part (indirectly)in the slaughter of animals

Not really!. THey are not saving animals because even if they don't eat meat there are other people, meat-eaters who are eating so farmers are killing animals still!. All animals that produce meat will die, but because of vegetarians some may have longer lives

Hope that helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is a delicate balance to nature!.!.!.there is a reason for a "food chain"!.!.!.animals allowed to populate without control are destined for death by disease!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Whatever you don't eat just gets exported!. I don't see how you could be actually saving anything!.

If you want to help animals, focus on animal welfare!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ive read on goveg!.com that vegetarians DO make a difference!.
Its supply and demand!. You dont eat it, the demand goes slightly down, as does the supply!.

Ive read each vegetarian saves about 100 animals a year!. =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes it does you save lots of animals a year http://www!.peta!.com/ has something that shows you how many you save per year but I forget how many and I glad you're veg I've been veg for 2 years also =^!.!.^=Www@FoodAQ@Com

supply and demand!. less demand = less supply!.
source!? economics!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well in a way yes but in another way no because you might not eat animals but someone else might!.
Www@FoodAQ@Com

It just saves some of the ones they do not eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
