Help becoming vegetarian?!
I want to become vegetarian and I know that means no meat but what about cheese and milk!? and how do i know if the cheese and milk are whatever kind if i get them at school!? What would be great alternatives to these things!? I have already checked Peta!.org but I didn't see to much about this!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The word "vegetarian" is a generic blanket term used to describe anybody who does not eat meat, poultry, fish, or seafood!. This encompasses vegans and also the various vegetarian sub-groups!. Vegetarians are generally those people who have chosen a diet with far less restrictions than those chosen by a vegan!.
The differences between the various vegetarian sub-groups may appear to be small, but they are very important to the members who belong to each groups!. In many cases the distinctions are important dietary or ethical decisions taken by the individual!.

Vegan is a healthier choice and I'm trying to move towards that from a vegetarian diet myself!.
Vegans don't eat eggs, meat, poultry, dairy and most don't even eat honey since it comes from bees!. You also have to look for other disgusting ingredients like animal lard, rennet (the inside lining of the 3rd stomach of a calf), etc!. I've found rennet (or renin) in mostly cheap store brand cheeses!. Soups labeled "vegetable soup" may contain beef base!. Another nasty ingredient is called "cochineal" but it is a dried beetle that is added to foods for "natural" red coloring!. There are many websites with more information on them!. A favorite of mine is www!.vegsource!.com!.
I'm planning on going on a raw vegan diet which is even more strict but I feel the benefits would outweigh the extra time it would take to prepare these meals!. The more raw vegan meals you eat the more energized you'll feel and healthier you'll be!.
If it is difficult for you to "quit cold turkey" then try adding 2 or 3 vegetarian/vegan meals per week to see how you feel!. The most important thing is to read, read, read anything you can find on the subject to keep yourself informed and to find recipes so that you'll have a variety and won't get bored with the same 'ol thing!. Diane is right, Lacto-ovo are dairy and egg eating vegetarians!. You can google vegetarians/ vegans online and get all sorts of descriptions!. There are also fish eating vegetarians!. Vegans eat no animal or bi products from animals, including things like honey and eggs!. If you want to avoid dairy, check out soy products and "meat" made from tofu!. I love soy delicious ice cream, vanilla and chocolate soy milk and the brand tofrutti!. I highly doubt your school sells any non dairy or tofu cheeses!. Vegetarians eat eggs and dairy products; vegans do not!. Depending on how strict you are about vegetarianism, you won't be able to eat some cheeses, though, because they contain rennet, which comes from the lining of animals' stomachs!. This is found in hard cheeses so, most likely, cheese you get at school should be fine (American cheese, processed cheese like Velveeta)!.
If you don't want to consume these, soy milk, rice milk, and soy cheeses are all alternatives!.

Well, if you are going to become a vegan, then it means no cheese either, as the cheese comes from an animal!. However, as far as I know, cheese and milk at schools are fine, unless you see them being mixed or handled with or in proximity to meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If you want to become a vegetarian forget about PETA they are for vegans!. Most vegetarians eat dairy and eggs too!. Borrow a few books form your library on the vegetarian diet and buy one of the vegetarian cookbooks written for teens!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
