Is becoming a vegetarian worth it?!
i care about my health alot im 16 and i excercise frequently and have a healthy diet but i was thinking the other day 95% of unhealthy foods come from animals and is it possible to still put on muscle as a vegetarian!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
No, it isn't worth it!.
Basically you give up an entire food group, and you have to fill in the gap with something else!. There is little evidence that you will live any longer!.
Meat is healthy, insane amounts of meat and fat is not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you have a desire to save animals then it is definitely worth it!. If you want to be healthy then there are probably easier ways!. For example, you can limit your meat intake to 4 oz per day!. You can limit yourself to healthier meat choices like chicken breast and fish!. You will gain the most by limiting fast food, processed food, and frozen food!. If you compare the vegetarian diet to the "average" American diet high in fat, sugar, and preservatives, then the vegetarian diet is definitely superior!. If you compare the vegetarian diet to a sensible low-fat low-sugar diet that uses a lot of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and legumes, then the health advantage disappears!. Check out the Mediterranean and Okinawan diets to see that a balanced diet with low meat is a very healthy option!. And the good thing is you can reward yourself with bbq ribs or a juicy steak once in a while! If you can go without meat forever, then vegetarian is definitely healthy!. But there are other healthy options that don't require as much sacrifice!. BTW many high performance athletes are vegetarian!. It just requires a bit of research to get all your nutrients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, it still is possible!.
You just have to make sure that as a vegetarian you are sill getting your daily recommended amount of protein!.
Do some research on the foods that have high levels of protein!.
Don't be fooled by people that say vegetarians cannot get protein!.
Meat-eaters are working their livers too much with the overload of protein that they consume!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

It all depends on what you eat!. Becoming vegetarian does help you become healthier, but it's not a panacea!. You can't eat junk food with tons of fat and sugar and then expect to be healthy just because you're a vegetarian!. While meat does give you strength, it's perfectly possible to get sufficient protein from other foods like beans and nuts!.
Putting on muscle is more a question of your exercise than your diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What you might want to do is Google "vegan athlete" and check out Organic Athletes (which is pro-vegan) for tips on being a healthy vegetarian and an athlete!. Exercise, not excess protein, builds muscle!. In fact, excess protein is bad for your bones and your kidneys!.
And as someone else pointed out, eat mostly unprocessed foods and little to no junk food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes! it is totally worth it!.!.!. i am lacto-vegetarian and a animal activist!.!.!.you consume less fat depending on wat you eat!. but if you eat healthy and exercise then being a vegetarian is worth it!! you live longer also and stay healthy and dont need to worry about getting sick!.!.!.you just need to stay on top of wat you eat so you dont skip meals or anything because when you are vegetarian you dont get protein from meat but you can eat beans and tofu to make up for it so your not giving yourself a chance of any type of mal-nutrition!.!.!.!.i hope i kinda helped you out!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Definitely worth it! Yes, you can still put on muscle, and you will be stronger as a vegetarian!. Did you know that eating animal proteins leaches calcium from your bones and actually makes them much weaker!? Vegetarians have stronger bones and can easily build muscle mass!. A vegetarian diet is very healthy for you!. If you want to eliminate all unhealthy animal products, become a vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
For the most part i would recommend selecting healthy meats and cut out most red meats!.
Fish, turkey, chicken, etc these are all good choices as long as you cook it in a healthy way!.
They did a study on 15 veggies who where strict and had been veggies for 10 years!. They tested them for strength in several ways and then they agreed to eat one meal a day with meat for several months, then be retested!.
To the disappointment of those veggies participating they gained 15% more strength!.
I considered being veggie myself!. i looked at my options and with the endurance cycling I do i would be a bean poll!. (no thanks)
I chose to just eat healthy foods in moderation and exercise!.
For the most part I did cut out dairy!. It is high in fat and the calcium can be gained other places!. Dairy is for babies!.
Many people in my family live a long long time!. My grandfather today flies his own airplane and is mentally 100%!. We took him to six flags last year and he walked the entire day!. Oh he is 90!.
Grandmother made it to 109 worked into her 90s, mentally ok hearing not so good!.
Both eat whatever they want!. (they are not fat though) They laugh at my dad and a few other members of the fam because they are vegans!. Its kinda funny watching them discuss this!.
Bottom line is genetics plays role #1 and eating right just assists the genetics!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
