Vegetarians what do you think?!

Question: Vegetarians what do you think!?
I've been a vegetarian since I was 8, and in recent years i've become more aware of eating food that has been cooked with meat!. I am always criticised when I ask if food has been cooked with meat and/or in animal fat, which really annoys me!. Are other vegetarians like this!? Would you willingly eat food (i!.e!. chips) knowing that they have been fried in animal fat or have been cooked alongside meat!? I'm just curious to what other vegetarians think of this!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I feel exactly the same!. Why go to the trouble of eating non-meat foods cooked in meat juices or products!? It just doesn't make any sense!.
I recently bought my own frying pan (yet another) because I am the only one who doesn't eat meat in the household and I often catch them using my utensils!. Whilst I have to admit that they are forgetful at the best of times, it still infuriates me!.
I do not buy fish and chips from the local chippy as they fry with Lard still!
I once also caught my father-in-law cooking me mushrooms in the frying pan that had just had bacon and sausage in it! When I asked him (politely) not to cook for me in future, he took offence and said I was being too fussy!
If you are not a veggie, it's hard to understand I suppose, but it's my choice not to have meat on my plate!.

I was even given meat gravy over a vegetarian meal in a restaurant once! Unbelievable isn't it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

If something has been cooked in with meat, fried in animal fat, etc!., it is no longer vegetarian!.

It's okay to only be aware of this now!. You were taking a big step by not actively eating meat!. For example, for a long time I didn't realize that when I ordered onion or broccoli soups in restaurants that 99% of the time they were cooked with a meat broth!. They were not vegetarian! But now I know so I avoid it!.

It's up to you if you want to be a full vegetarian who doesn't eat meat (includes things fried in animal fat, cooked with meat broth, etc!.) or a semi-vegetarian who just doesn't order meat dishes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I hardly eat out, but when I am with family I will occasionally!. I always ask how they prepare and cook the food, since I do not wish to contribute to animal exploitation in any way, shape or form!.

It does not bother me that some people are annoyed by this or get put off being with me!. Sticking to what you believe and the truth is one of the most important things to do in your life!. I'm happy to ask about alternatives such as soya milk in coffee shops to make the vegan message!. I'm not going to pussy foot around people, afraid of annoying them or being criticised!. Animals deserve rights and I'm not one to sit by while they are abused and say nothing, let alone eat animal products to satisfy others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Luckily people don't seem to get annoyed with me when I ask what's in a food or if it is vegetarian!. It's unprofessional if they do!. It's their job to answer your questions and tell you what's in the food!. Anybody who has served food should know there are a LOT worse things a customer can do than ask about an ingredient!. Be polite and nonchalant when you ask and they shouldn't be annoyed!. If they have a problem with your request or act all superior then they need to learn how to talk to people!.

I won't eat anything with animal fat either!. It's about the same thing as meat to me!. And I'm very reluctant to eat something that might have been in contact with meat or cooked alongside it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

animal fat is bad for you the fat will clog your arteries, if you don't eat meat why would you eat something cooked with meat grease!. You defeat the purpose of being vegetarian!. Some things remain in the oil of the animal fat!.You want to avoid any link to the problem with meat I!.E!. growth hormones antibiotics, mad cow sickness, and with some religion's not eating the blood of the meat if it's cooked with like hamburger your going to get some of the blood mixed in with the cooking process!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, you have a right to know how your food was cooked !.!.!.!. you're the one paying for it after all, why shouldn't you!.

I have the same problem with roast potatoes !.!.!. unless they are roasted in sunflower or vegetable oil I won't eat them !.!.!.!. if people criticise me then I won't eat at such a place!. I only know of a handful of places that roast them in veg oil !.!.!. most places still use meat juices and yet advertise them as suitable for vegetarians!.

If a restaurant/fish shop criticise your beliefs then IMO it's not a good enough place to eat in!. Go somewhere better!.

my best friend has been a vegetarian for twelve years now and he always asks the waiter if there is meant in it!. however, when he is over at my house or other friend's house he doesnt ask us!. if he's never been somewhere and people have served him food he doesnt bother them about it, just doesnt eat whats on their stove!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

my parents used to lie about using meat stock in food so that i would eat it!.!.!.it really upset me when i found out!. i think there are two types of people - some respect your decision to avoid meat and some just think they're more clever than you and that they don't have to respect you because in their opinion vegetarianism is is stupid!. it very frustrating when you have to deal with these individuals, especially when they decide what you're going to eat!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if one knows the presence of animal fat and yet they consume it then they are not vegetarians, it is that simple!.
your take on the criticisms though will be influenced upon your reason for converting into a vegetarian and your interest in staying as one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it sounds perfectly reasonable to me!.
people get upset because they thing vegetarianism is silly, unhealthy, etc!. it's all about personal beliefs!.
and it's ok to stay strong and stick to your decision!.

i'm not a vegetraian but i understand you !. O think thats perfectly okay!. Many people are repulsed by any type of mest (and healthy it isn't) respect!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
