Why shun meat, vegetarians?!

Question: Why shun meat, vegetarians!?
by not eating meat you just wasted that animals life, right!? people are still gonna kill animals regardless if you don't eat it or not!. paul mccartney's wife was a vegetarian!. she died of breast of cancer!.!.!. in small portions meat is actually good for you!. so is there a point in being a vegetarian!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
There are several reasons to shun meat!.

First - Yes, some people are animal pacifists!. You say people are going to kill animals whether we eat them or not!? That is quite true - how are we to get leather if we don't kill cows for example!? But some people do go to extremes, removing all animal products from their life, so they can say that they don't kill another living being!.

Second- Some people simply don't like the thought that cute little Bambi is what they are having for dinner!. Especially for farmers, you don't realise how heartbreaking it can be to kill an animal you may have grown to love as a pet - A classic movie example of this is Babe: The Sheep Pig

Third - Well, some people simply don't like the taste of meat!. I identify with this, because (for the most part) I can't stand meat!. Not so much it's flavour but it's texture!. A lot of meat is just so greasy or has oil coming out of it!. Even a nice steak, which I do like, leaves a pool of grease which often has oil bubbles sitting on top!. Some people find this disgusting!. I know often I do!. I'm not vegetarian, but I am very picky about my meat and I cannot each large amounts of it!.

Fourth - Some people simply prefer greens!. Yes, some of us find those greens tasty!. Again, I identify with this - A good carrot (which is actually an orange, not a green, obviously), or steamed broccoli is a much preferred alternative to meat!. I know a lot of people hate greens!. I love them!.

Fifth - Fish!. Some people don't count fish as meat, although fish are still animals!. Fish is generally a "you like it" or "you hate it" thing, where those who like fish wish you could eat it all the time, and those who hate it can't even stand to smell it!. Give me a decent flavoursome fish any day!.

I'm sure there are more reasons!. Your point about Paul McCartney's wife dying of breast cancer is, I'm sure, irrelevant to being a vegetarian!. Dr Atkin died from slipping on black ice!. That is to say, being vegetarian won't grant you immunity from disease and illness (although it will protect from parasites such as tapeworm, or animal carried diseases such as bovine foot-and-mouth or tuberculosis), nor will it be a cause of disease or illness (usually)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegan, and my reason is to minimise my personal contribution to animal suffering and exploitation as far as I can!.

The person who kills an animal is the one who has wasted its life, not the person who declines to eat it!.

I'm not sure why you brought Linda McCartney and her death from breast cancer into it; are you suggesting that vegetarianism is bad for you and causes cancer!? Or is your point that vegetarianism doesn't protect you from cancer!? The first is nonsense, the second is,sadly, true!. Neither veg*nism or meat-eating will protect you from cancer!.

To the second answerer - in fact fewer than 10% of cancers are genetic, and in the case of breast cancer it is only 5-10% that are hereditary!. The rest are random, and nobody knows what causes them!. Neither meat nor lack of it are recognised breast cancer risks!.

A diet *high* in meat, particularly red and processed meats, is a known risk factor the development of some colorectal cancers!. A diet *high* in meat and fat *may* increase the risk of pancreatic cancer!. A diet *high* in red and processed meats is thought to *possibly* increase the risk of stomach cancer (as is a diet high in salt)!.

A diet high in dairy is thought to be a possible risk factor in prostate cancer, and a diet high in fat may be a risk factor for some other cancers!.

All these are risk factors, some of them not even definite risk factors!. A risk factor is not a cause!.

That's about it for any known connection between meat and the 200+ diseases that come under the umbrella title of cancer!.

It's actually thought that fish could reduce the risk of colon cancer, although, like all the cancer/diet connections it's not been conclusively shown!. But the evidence is strong enough for Cancer Research UK to include it in their information on cancer and diet

There is no cancer where lack of meat consumption is regarded as a risk factor!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, vegetarians shun meat for a lot of different reasons!. Some people do it because it obviously causes animal suffering, and many people on this planet don't want to contribute to that!.

Some of us do it for health reasons!. Meat stays in the system much longer than vegetables!. also, who would want to consume an animal who has already consumed pesticides and may have diseases!? You're subjecting yourself to any problems that creature may have had!.

Some vegetarians are concerned with the environment world hunger!. It takes a lot of land to raise cattle, so imagine if we saved much of that land and dedicated the rest to raising soybeans or other nutritious foods that can feed many more people than one animal could!?

Finally, some vegetarians do it for religious reasons!. Jains, Jews, Buddhists, Seventh-day Adventists, and even some other Christians (who believe "thou shall not kill") are vegetarian because it aligns with their beliefs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, it is very difficult to eliminate all animal products from one's
consumption, just as it is impossible to eliminate all accidental killing
and infliction of harm that results from our activities!. But this cannot
justify making it "open season" for any kind of abuse of animals!. The
reasonable goal, given the realities, is to minimize the harms one causes!. The point, then, is that a great deal of suffering is prevented!.

The fundamental principle of the AR movement is that nonhuman animals deserve to live according to their own natures, free from harm, abuse, and exploitation!. This goes further than just saying that we should treat animals well while we exploit them, or before we kill and eat them!. It says animals have the RIGHT to be free from human cruelty and exploitation, just as humans possess this right!. The withholding of this right from the nonhuman animals based on their species membership is referred to as "speciesism"!.

The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"by not eating meat you just wasted that animals life, right!? people are still gonna kill animals regardless if you don't eat it or not!."

Have you never heard of supply and demand!?

Meat and animal products won't be put on shelfs if people don't buy them!. Slaughterhouses don't kill animals if supermarkets won't buy them!. Farmers won't raise animals if slaughterhouses won't buy them!.!.!.

By not paying for meat and animal products, you are breaking a demand for them and putting less money in the hands of supermarkets!. slaughterhouses and farmers, who use those profits to maintain and expand their abusive business!.

Furthermore, by not using animals as if they were property, you are making a political point that others may choose to follow, thus decreasing the demand for animal products even more!.

To use 'it'll just go off on the shelf' as reasoning against veganism is to defy the most basic principle of business that happens all over the world!.

To say that one vegan won't make a difference is the same as saying one vote won't make a difference, except it's even more fallicious since the supermarkets, slaughterhouses and farmers WILL use the money you pay them to exploit more animals!.

When you give your money to these people, they will abuse more animals!.

Furthermore, in reply to another answer - how is any life better than no life!? If living through abuse and going through inevitable murder was better than no life at all, then you'd also have to agree that it is justified for a person to have a child only to beat and abuse it all of its life - which I'm sure you'll agree is not correct!. If any life was better than no life, then why do people commit suicide!? Why are animals put down!? Why do humans agree to be euthanised!? Why do people terminate babies who would live a life of pain, incapacity and discrimination!? And who are we to say that this life is the only life!.!.!. there could be past and future lives, higher and lower plains of life!.!.!. just saying that any life is better than no life because you're an atheist doesn't stand up - it's based on belief rather than fact - the afterlife is something we cannot be sure about!.

"paul mccartney's wife was a vegetarian!. she died of breast of cancer!.!.!."

So do many, many women in all shapes and sizes and for numbers of reasons!. A one case scenerio proves nothing!. 1/3 people get cancer now, so pointing out one vegetarian (I think she's vegan, actually, Paul is) who got cancer is one hell of a generalisation!. There are actually lots of links between meat and animal products and cancer and various problems which increase the risk of cancer!. Vegans tend to eat a lot more fresh fruit and vegetables, many of which contain things which can help prevent cancer (organic tomatoes one of the best things you can eat to help prevent it)!.

"in small portions meat is actually good for you!."

What is your reasoning for this!? As far as I am aware, meat contains high amounts of saturated fat, cholesterol and carcinogens!. There's nothing in meat that can't be obtained elsewhere!. There are even a few vegan foods which have a higher protein content, but aren't full of the same nasties and of course aren't a product of abuse and murder!. "small portions meat" may be 'good' for you, but the same nutritional value in plant-based foods is far healthier and ethical!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I shun meat because I don't believe in supporting that industry that kills the animals!. Animals are kept for meat production becuase there is a demand for them, being vegetarian helps to reduce this demand!.

They're gonna be killed anyway so why bother!? It's this attitude that stops changes from happening in the world!. If people think like this no one will ever try to do anything!.!.!.

By living a vegetarian life I'm minimizing my direct contribution to animal cruelty and also hopefully I'll be able to show some people what a great lifestyle it is!. Maybe more people will try it and decide to be vegetarian!. Maybe eventually there will be enough people refusing to buy meat that the industry will have to reduce out put to get in line with the lessened demand for meat!.!.!.maybe one day meat eaters will be the minority and almost everyone will be vegetarian!.!.!.

Big dreams, impossible in my lifetime!.!.!.!. But that doesn't mean I wont even try!.

Every little action helps or changes something!. The worst thing a person can do is give up before they've even tried!.

And I'm not sure the animal who died so it's flesh could to end up on your dinner plate would get much comfort from the fact their 'life wasn't wasted'!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

And, tragically, millions of meat eating women have died of breast cancer too, so what's your point!?

We are not wasting an animal's life; you are!. You pay good money to have animals bred, fed, confined, drugged, mutilated, artificially inseminated, transported and slaughtered to satisfy the whims of your tastebuds!. I find the whole process of bringing a sentient creature into this world for the sole purpose of dying morally repugnant, so I don't do it!. If there was ANY dietary requirement for dead animal, I'd reconsider my position, but there's not so harming them is an act of pure selfishness!.

And as for "people are still gonna kill the animal regardless," that's faulty logic, too!. People are still going to beat their children regardless of whether you beat yours!.!.!. is that a justification for beating your child!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are what you eat!. Animals are fed antibiotics and steroids to fatten
them up!. Then you eat them!. The animals are driven in trucks to the slaughter house with no food or water in the hot sun!. Some of them can't even make it out of the truck!. The workers use animals prods to get them out and if that doesn't work, they kick them or tie a rope around their neck, tie it to a post, and drive the truck , breaking the animals legs, pelvis etc!. There is a story about this in the PETA Vegetarian Starter Kit
PETA ( People for the ethical treatment of Animals) You can request a copy from PETA online!. It has alot of useful information!. You can save 90 animals a year by becoming vegetarian!. I am a vegetarian because it is healthier and I object to the killing and abuse of animals!.
also a good book to read is "Skinny "*****" by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin!. In paperback!. If this book doesn't change your mind, nothing will!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why bash a person's choice of what to eat!? While I may not want to be a vegan or vegetarian, I respect people who make that decision!.

Edit: Well then, you just answered your own question, they believe eating animals is wrong!. You may disagree, and that is your right; but if it is someone's decision and they are not forcing their beliefs on you you should respect them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ah another "what is the point" question!.!.!.!.!.!. !!

The thing is man has been playing GOD for way too long!. What gives us humans the right to decide what is the fate of any animal - what gives us the right to say animals are going to die anyway so why not eat them !? well in that case all the humans around us are going to die anyway one day so why bother burying them or anything !? eat them too !? well mother nature has a way of recylcing dead animals so you and me dont have to worry about it!.

I accept the fact that people are going to continue breeding animals so they can continue killing and eating them, wether i eat meat or not - but it is MY choice not be part of that, and it is my choice that I dont want dead animal on my plate!.

The human race has lived for centuries thinking they own and run the world!. it is because of human arrogance and over breeding and genetic inteference that we have had mad cow disease and bird flu!. Mad Cow disease was a result of animal by products being fed to cows!.

We dont own animals around us - Mother Nature does!. and nature never intended us to eat meat - because if we were meant to eat meat, we would have CLAWS and TEETH that cut through raw meat - but we dont - we have square teeth!.

But anyway I am not trying to convince meat eaters to not eat meat - that is not my business - but what I do is my choice!.

how does her breast cancer relate to her being vegetarian!?!?!? vegetarian actually greatly reduces your risk of many of the worlds top killer diseases- diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, etc!.
we realize we are still going to die!.!.!. vegetarianism doesn't bring you immoratality!.

actually no!.!.!. supply and demand!.!.!. if people eat less meat, there will be less meat made!.!.!.!. i don't think vegetarianism has picked up to the point of greatly reducing the countrys meat production!.!.!. but it certainly has increased awareness to the point that i can walk into any supermarket and have an assortment of "fake" soy meats, soy milk, organic eggs, etc!.!.!.!.!. people are taking notice!.

and even if animals are still being killed!.!.!. so what's your point!? i should just eat them then!? it's called standing up for what you believe in!. i don't have to support and give my money to slaughterhouses!. i can give my money to soy food makers!. i don't have to eat an animal that was tortured and suffered!. i don't have to put that carcass in my mouth!. sure, meat tastes great!.!.!.!. was it worth the suffering of an animal that feels pain the same way we do!? sorry, me thinks not!. and i don't want to contribute to that!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fewer animals will be slaughtered!. It's supply and demand in the market- on average, the 'demand' of another meat-eater causes 100 animals a year to die!. With each person that becomes a vegetarian, the demand for meat lowers, and thus, fewer animals are killed by the suppliers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

how is meat good for!.!.yes when we were Neanderthals are body had to consume over 80% percent of meat a day but back then we had the right digestive enzymes!.!.now are body's only have 20% of those meat digestive enzymes!.!.!.meaning that it take a long time for the meat to pass through your body!.!.!.so when you bite into that hamburger which is already rotten meat carcasses, it will sit inside your body rotting away getting moldy!.!.causes you to bloat and get gassy!.!.!. and no if less people consumed meat there would be no food animal industry!.!.!.come on you cant be that stupid !? !.!.!.soo eating meat will prevent me from getting what!.!.heart disease!.!.!.meat is bad for u!.!.and you can get protein from foods that are good for you and didn't cause pain to an animal!.!.!.but you can go ahead and shove your face with rotting carcasses!.

just a tip to!.!.!.!.cancer and illnesses are usually family related!.!.!.called genes!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

being a vegetarian is a personal choice, and as long as someone feel he/she is doing the right thing, then it's ok!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A farm animal is bred for food, whether meat or dairy products!. The question about wasting it's life isn't correct!. If it hadn't have been bred as a farm animal it wouldn't have been born in the first place!. One could argue that as denying life to an animal, though I'm not sure that's a viable arguement!.
It's just a question of ethics!. Everyone tries to say that it is harmful one way or the other to eat or not eat meat, but life expectancy keeps rising, so who are we to say what is best!.

I eat meat because I enjoy eating meat!. It was the way I was brought up!. I accept the values people have on here, but at the end of the day there will be no reduction in the meat industry!. It is possible over many years that in the UK there could be a dip, but any excess meat will just go for export which much of Britain's meat all ready does do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
