Hey, if you're looking for the benefits of Omega-3 oils that are found in fish, I found a good vegan alternative!. Smart Balance Omega vegetable oil blend has omega-3s and you use it in cooking like you would any vegetable oil!.

Benefits of Omega-3s:
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Omega-3_fat!.!.!.

The product I'm talking about:
http://www!.smartbalance!.com/OilsFamily!.a!.!.!.

I found that in Von's, which is the same as Safeway or Albertson's!. By the way, blueberries and carrots are supposed to be great for eyesight!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ok, first you would be vegetarian, not vegan, if you eat dairy products!. Vegans do not consume ANY animal products or by products, such as honey, dairy, eggs, leather, wool, etc!. You would be considered lacto-vegetarian, which means you consume dairy!. Vegetarians would not consume fish oil!. Flax seed is higher in omega 3 fatty acids than fish oil, and would be a suitable substitute for you!. It can all be pretty confusing to start with, but you will get the hang of it!. Try checking out some books from your library!. And, don't worry about the few who are bound to chastise you on here for not knowing the difference-it takes awhile to sort it all out-congrats on taking the first steps! You can get flax seed or flax seed oil at your local health food store, and YES, its great for your eyes! Www@FoodAQ@Com

OK, first off, you're not vegan!. We don't eat, use, purchase or wear anything of animal origin whatsoever, which definitely means we don't eat dairy!. You are a vegetarian!.

Secondly, of COURSE fish oil is not vegan or vegetarian!. It's DEAD FISH!.

Thirdly, you don't need fish oil for anything!. Fish don't manufacture omega-3, they eat it!. If you want to take a supplement, get your omega-3 from the same source the fish get it: blue-green algae!. No dead animals required!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you don't eat eggs and meat, but eat dairy products, you would be a lacto-vegetarian, not a vegan!. vegans are very strict, and eat no meat, plus nothing that comes from animals, like milk, eggs, honey and no prodcts containing them, i!.e!. no cookies containing milk, honey, eggs and so on!.
if you need fish oil capsules to take for your health, ok!. but that would start a debate as to whether you're still considered a vegetarian or not!. but still, you're helping a lot against animal cruelty by not eating meat, so!.!.!. i also have to take fish oil capsules for my health!.
but for eyesight and healthy eyes: carrots are the best! believe me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh, "you're M!.U!.R!.D!.E!.R" of the poor vegans!

The word "vegetarian" is a generic blanket term used to describe anybody who does not eat meat, poultry, fish, or seafood!. This encompasses vegans and also the various vegetarian sub-groups!. Vegetarians are generally those people who have chosen a diet with far less restrictions than those chosen by a vegan!.
The differences between the various vegetarian sub-groups may appear to be small, but they are very important to the members who belong to each groups!. In many cases the distinctions are important dietary or ethical decisions taken by the individual!.

Here are the various vegetarian sub-groups:

SEMI-VEGETARIAN
===================================
Semi-vegetarians are people who have chosen to live a lifestyle which is not strictly vegetarian!. A semi-vegetarian may be a person who only eats meat occasionally, or perhaps doesn’t eat meat, but eats poultry and fish!.

1) Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Ovo-lacto vegetarians are vegetarians who do not eat meat, poultry, fish, and seafood, but do eat eggs and milk!. This is by far the largest group of vegetarians!.

2) Ovo-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Ovo-vegetarians are people who would be classed as vegans if they did not eat eggs!.

3) Lacto-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Lacto-vegetarians are people who would be classed as vegans if they did not consume milk!.

VEGAN
======================================!.!.!.
This is by far the strictest vegetarian sub-group or category!.
A vegan is a person who has chosen not to consume any animal products or byproducts!. Some will even so far as not consuming honey and yeast, and others will not wear any clothing made from animal products!. Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose!. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind!. The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, human health, and spiritual or religious concerns!. Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming!. Veganism never stops at eating habit alone, but continuous journey beyond!.

"hi, im a vegan who eats dairy products but not egg, fish, meat etc!. (i dont know what im classified as)"

That'd be a lacto vegetarian!.

Given that a vegan (or vegetarian) can not both eat fish and be classified as such, I'm going to say that your best bet is to look for a vegan alternative to fish oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegan!? you arent even considered a vegetarian if you use fish oil!. being vegan is a lot more than just not eating this or that!. i think it would help if you researched more into it and learn a little more about veganism that way you can see what it's all about before you call yourself that!. here are a few good websites: vegan!.org, chooseveg!.com, and goveg!.com
hope this helps you get a better understandingWww@FoodAQ@Com

you on crack, girlfriend!? vegans don't eat fish!. last time i checked, fishies weren't swimmin' veggies!. best to get off the illicit drugs and learn to think!.

and you aren't a vegan either, sweetchecks!. you're what we call a lacto-vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Carrots are good for eyes, just as grandma told you!. She knows! Exercising your eyes helps ever better (getting outside and using them)!.

What is in the fish oils are omega fatty acids!. also found in seeds and such!. Flax and hemp seeds are popular sources!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're a lacto-vegetarian, not a vegan!. (That's the term!.)

If you don't want to eat animals, you should skip the fish oil!. It comes from fish and if it comes in tablet form, it probably has gelatin, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians and vegans don't eat fish or the oil that comes from them!. I never hear of fish being good for your eyes but leafy green veggies and dark skinned fruit is good for the health of your eyes as you get older!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Flax oil or flax seeds will do mostly the same things for you that Fish oil will!. Try it!. Its much better for you!. (and doesn't stink like fish)Www@FoodAQ@Com

No vegans cannot use fish oil!. Vegetarians can!. If you need to help your eyesight you should enjoy the wholesome goodness found in carrots!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fish oil comes from fish!. Fish are not plants!. So no, fish oil is not suitable for a vegan diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

lol nothing is suitable for a veganWww@FoodAQ@Com
