What do you love / hate most about being vegetarian / vegan?!
:@)Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Here are the things I hate about being vegan:
-eating out is not fun anymore
-my family and friends sometimes give me a hard time about it
-some meat eaters argue with me about my dietary lifestyle though it has nothing to do with them
-cruelty-free foods are sometimes expensive
Here are the things I love about being vegan:
-I am eating a variety of foods I would have never tried as an omni
-I am much healthier
-my conscience is free from guilt b/c I am not contributing to cruelty and torture
-I can basically eat TONS of food and not gain a lot of weight b/c the items I eat are low fat and low cal (veggies, fruit, whole grains)
-as I explore more options within the vegan lifestyle, I think it's making me a better person overall!. I try to live "greener", I am more sympathetic to the plight of all animals (not just those destined for human consumption) and I also found a deeper sense of concern for other humans too (like those who are hungry and thirsty)
-I feel closer to God
-I don't crave or eat heavily processed junk food anymore
Good !?estion! Star for you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I feel healthier, and food has become to me what is should be: sustenance!. As a vegetarian I still chose most of my foods due to taste, and I ate cheese all the time - way too much of it!. Like a macaroni casserole loaded with cheese, cheese sandwiches, the more cheese on my pasta the better - I really ate dairy products at every meal!. As a vegan, I'm eating to live, not living to eat!. I am making more responsible choices about my long-term health!. I also feel more energetic since going vegan!.
There's not that much to hate!.!.!. it is more difficult finding food, but I live in LA and there are a lot of viable options!. Most restaurants have something I can eat, and I'm in the diet-and-fitness capital, so no one really gives me a hard time about it!. It's kind of expected!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am more of a strict vegetarian going on vegan (since september 1st, 2008!!!)
I love: The fact that i am not supporting the meat industry so i don't have to live with the guilt of living for another animal's death!. also i get to try new things like meat alternatives and dairy alternatives!. And i HAVE to try new recipes because my family are meatatarians so i get to try interesting flavors!.
I hate: The critisizm my family gives me!. Knowing that animals are dying for an injust cause!. And nobody seems to know or understand this!. also i have VERY limited food choices at relatives or restraunts seeing how i am the only one (besides my great aunt who doesn't cook and is a vegetarian not vegan so she eats eggs and milk) in my family who is vegan or vegetarian or anything!. So its hard on me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have been vegan for 8 yrs and I love it! I love the fact I don't get stomach aches from dairy anymore!. I don't support factory farming or any cruel inhumane treatment of animals by being vegan!. I feel healthier and my skin complexion cleared up!. I feel more positive that I am not only helping animals, but also the environment by being vegan!. I live in Portland OR and we have a vegan mini mall which has a vegan grocery store (Food Fight!), a vegan bakery (Sweet Pea Bakery), a place to get tattoos (Scapegoat), and a vegan clothing store (Herbivore)!. Yes, I really do love being vegan, especially living in Portland!.
What I don't like is people telling me it's not healthy or criticizing me!. My family says I'm too skinny, when I weigh the same that I have always weighed!. It's hard to be at family holidays, especially Thanksgiving because I don't want to sit around a table with a dead turkey!. There is definitly more to love about being vegan then there is to hate about being vegan!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Love-- I have noticeably more energy & I feel a lot healthier!. And I've always enjoyed "healthy" food more, anyways!.
Hate-- I always feel really rude when I'm going to someone's dinner party, event, etc!. and I have to say "Oh, I'm sorry, I don't eat meat!." also, most restaurants have a pretty limited option for vegetarians!.
Overall, though, I love being a vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What I love most is feeling at harmony with nature and other species!.
What I love second most is being a part of a big veg'an worldwide family and knowing that social and ecological consciousness can connect so many human beings!. What I love third most is the food;
how tasty and varied the recipes are and the energy I get from wholesome nourishment!.
What I hate most is having to bite my tongue when I hear cruel callous attitudes roll off people's tongues!. It can be a bit hard to navigate how to behave around people or respond to certain questions and comments when they come up!.

I love being able to live with a clear conscience that I am not supporting violence with my money or actions!.
It's extremely rewarding when someone is inspired by you and also takes the plunge to eat or live as a veg*n!. Three of my friends and two family members have become either strict vegetarians or vegans since I made the change to veganism!.
And I'm proud to say, that the multiplying effect is not stopping there!.
A good friend of mine who recently went vegan, moved away and started working for an autistic school in the Los Angeles area!. She was sad to see that their lunches were nothing but hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets!. She urged the school board to adopt a healthy lunch program and now most items on the menu are vegetarian or vegan with a few items remaining which contain meat!. She even had her students start to make the food themselves and sell it to the school employees to fund their field trips and activities!.
Another friend has recently told me that his mother has now stopped eating meat and dairy after she heard he went vegan!. When word gets out it spreads like wildfire!.
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
I hate the frustration that comes with knowledge that so many animals are being confined, are in pain, and are being slaughtered!. also, change is extremely slow in coming so it's hard to know that all of this happens and there's little I can do to prevent it!.
I hate not having many options when I go out to restaurants!. Yes, most have vegetarian options but often the vegetarian option would be hard to make vegan unless the restaurant had vegan substitutes, which is extremely rare!.
I also hate the fact that veg*ns are so misunderstood!. People have these crazy notions in their heads that all veg*ns are terrorists or extremists (I blame the media)!. Is compassion extreme!? I implore people to step out of their shoes and look at it objectively for one moment: is it more extreme to eat from the Earth!? or is it more extreme to cause or contribute to death for the sake of your own sustenance!? I think eating meat and other animal products is far more extreme!.
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
All in all, the postives WAY outweigh the negatives!. And I'm sorry this is so long!.

I love the most about being vegan is knowing that I am doing something selfless for once, I was healthy before and had no intentions of changing my heath for the better, I became vegan for the animals and the environment the health benefits are just an added plus!.
I hate how once you tell someone you're vegan they look at you completely different than they did before they knew!. I'm still the same person, just acting on my beliefs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Love: the higher threshhold for calories!. Since i (as a vegetarian) do not get my calories from meat, i can consume larger amounts of calory-rich food from elsewhere, such as sweets etc!. Fat, too!. Has to be well-balanced and well-managed, of course!.
Love: I used to be quite chubby, but became slim when i became a vegetarian!. Not unhealthily slim- just nicely slim!.
Hate: Lack of choice when going out to eat with other people!.!.!. i think that's about it!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pros: More energy, smaller waistline(awesome), super healthy nails(not sure if there is a correlation, but I noticed that my nails have been looking really good lately), lots of delicious and creative recipes I never would have tried before!
Cons: eating out is a pain, family functions, certain friends who have odd issues with my diet choices, This will be my first holiday season as a vegetarian so I am sure that it will be a bit of an issue that i am not eating the turkey, ham, etc! =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

hate:
often missing meat (still liking the taste a lot), including at a dinner or party when I would just skip the meat and get sides; thinking my snack or meal is boring at these occasions
also I love ice cream but want to stop eating it or eat very little of it since it is mainly milk, so I would miss ice cream!.
love:
the benefits to: the animals (less abuse and slaughter), the environment (less effect of raising animals for food), and my body (better health)Www@FoodAQ@Com

i dont know what its like not being veggie, cos ive been one all my life,
But I love jelly, and not being able to eat the school jelly just sucks!.
I love cooking though, and experimenting with different combinations, but my family isnt so keen when i experiment!. lol!.
Mum doesnt like me cooking cos i make a mess of the kitchen!. LOL
Even though veggie food is gret, and i dont have to worry about where the meat has come from (cos i dont eat meat), i want to not be veggie any more, cos of why im veggie!.
Anyway, going to uni in a couple of years, so my dad has no say!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The only single thing I dislike about being a vegetarian is the snarky comments people say when they find out for the first time!.
I have been told I'm doing it for attention, that I must be anaemic, that I will start smelling 'off' because of my diet, that I'm being difficult!.
Basically, other people have a problem, then that unfortuantely becomes my problem!.
This has been the same for the last 20 years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I just became one about 1 1/2 months ago but i love feeling healthier and the different foods!. I hate how my family and friends make bets about when i will crack and they makefun of my dietary choice!. I used to have acne and now i dont have any at all, i have much more energy and i hate how people try to convince me to eat meat!. Good Luck! :DWww@FoodAQ@Com
I agree with RSJ, the food options are very limited!. But there are many great vegan restaurants!. The benefit of cooking all your own meals is that you know exactly what ingredients are put in them!
I love how much healthier I feel, how much more energy I have!. My skin and hair feel better than ever, and I am taking a stand against animal cruelty!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Before becoming a veggie, I had no idea whatsoever how many foods there were out there that I actually LIKE! I simply had not even tried them!.!.!.and some I didn't even know existed!.
I never knew how delicious a portobella "burger" could be until I decided to stop eating the beef ones!. Now I find very often I prefer the taste of the "veggie version" of foods!.

I love way too many things to mention! I hate when people try to prove that you are somehow a hypocrite!. ie!. People that have to inspect your shoes or bag to make sure you aren't wearing leather for the sole reason that they really want to 'catch you', as if they have something to prove!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Love the fact that I know my body is healthier now that I no longer eat meat!. But, I'm a newbie (less than a week!) and I really hate the gas! I may have to add some cheese here and there or some egg whites!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I love being a vegetarian!. I have great pride knowing that I'm sparing the life of animals that I would consume if I wasn't a vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Love the way I feel- more energy!. Hate the very limited options when going out to eat!. And dealing with family over the holidays!. People get insulted when you don't have their turkey or ham!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Love most: knowing that I am doing my body, other living beings and the planet a service!!!
Dislike most: the ignorant criticism I (occasionally) receive!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love having lower cholesterol!.

Hate having to constantly explain/defend myself to stupid people!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I love the way vegetarians cook their food!. It tastes better but I don't know how they do it so I continue to cook my spanish food!. :(Www@FoodAQ@Com
I love knowing the fact that I have made at least one right choice in life, and that no animal blood or meat runs through my veins!.!.!. so, yeah, it feels good =DWww@FoodAQ@Com
