Answers:
Yes, she's right > a vegetarian!.!.!.a SEMI-vegetarian!. perhaps not a STRICTEST vegetarian!

The word "vegetarian" is a generic blanket term used to describe anybody who does not eat meat, poultry, fish, or seafood!. This encompasses vegans and also the various vegetarian sub-groups!. Vegetarians are generally those people who have chosen a diet with far less restrictions than those chosen by a vegan!.
The differences between the various vegetarian sub-groups may appear to be small, but they are very important to the members who belong to each groups!. In many cases the distinctions are important dietary or ethical decisions taken by the individual!.

Here are the various vegetarian sub-groups:

SEMI-VEGETARIAN
===================================
Semi-vegetarians are people who have chosen to live a lifestyle which is not strictly vegetarian!. A semi-vegetarian may be a person who only eats meat occasionally, or perhaps doesn’t eat meat, but eats poultry and fish!.

1) Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Ovo-lacto vegetarians are vegetarians who do not eat meat, poultry, fish, and seafood, but do eat eggs and milk!. This is by far the largest group of vegetarians!.

2) Ovo-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Ovo-vegetarians are people who would be classed as vegans if they did not eat eggs!.

3) Lacto-Vegetarian
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Lacto-vegetarians are people who would be classed as vegans if they did not consume milk!.

VEGAN
======================================!.!.!.
This is by far the strictest vegetarian sub-group or category!.
A vegan is a person who has chosen not to consume any animal products or byproducts!. Some will even so far as not consuming honey and yeast, and others will not wear any clothing made from animal products!. Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose!. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind!. The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, human health, and spiritual or religious concerns!. Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming!. Veganism never stops at eating habit alone, but continuous journey beyond!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chickens lay eggs!.!.!.!.!.

If the chickens are truly free-range and can scratch around and live their lives in a meadow, they don't go through a lot of pain and suffering to make the eggs, because it is what they do naturally!.

Vegetarians can eat eggs, so nothing strange about that!.

Vegetarians and meat eaters who are consuming eggs, should always avoid standard supermarket / standard farm / battery hen eggs anyway!.

Chickens in this situation are treated poorly and kept in inhumane conditions!.

They are also fed some odd things (i!.e!.) chickens are treated with antibiotic drugs and their grain is grown with pesticides – which in turn you will ingest when consuming the egg!.

* Proper certified organic (or biodynamic) free-range eggs are the only way to go!. They may cost a little bit more than standard eggs but the taste delicious, they are pesticide and drug free and the chicken is happy!.

* Careful some unscrupulous companies have jumped on the “free-range” bandwagon, when their eggs are anything but – educate yourself and do research, rather than replying solely on the advertisers!.

Best place to get certified organic free-range eggs are:

Have your own chickens at home in the garden
From independent Farmers Markets
From Health Food Stores
From Certified Organic Food Stores

You might want to tread carefully!.!.!. people get upset very quickly if you suggest that their diet is harmful in some way!. Ask her if she knows what "battery" chickens are!. Tell her that 90+ percent of eggs in the Western world come from battery hens!. Encourage her to do some research!. Frankly, tell her it's an animal rights issue and that she'd probably really appreciate knowing!. When people are totally unbeknownst to something of that scale, they get upset upfront, but once they see proof of the claims you make, they usually calm down!. If she's as concerned about animals as you say she is, she'll probably either eliminate eggs or find local, ethically sourced ones (yes, it's possible - I personally don't eat eggs but acknowledge that it's possible to find ethically sourced eggs)!.

I'm planning on becoming a vegetarian myself (and I've decided I am, because of all of the healthy benefits) and there are several types of vegetarians:

Ovo-Vegetarians are vegetarians that eat eggs, but exclude meat dairy products!.
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians are vegetarians that eat eggs and dairy, but exclude meat products (which is what I'm doing)!.
Lacto-Vegetarians are vegetarians that eat dairy products, but exclude meat and eggs!.

There are others, but I'm pretty sure this pertains to your question!. I believe she is a vegetarian!. And as one comment stated, eggs are a by-product of an animal and are naturally made!. I, personally, would consider her to be a vegetarian!. If she was a vegan, then you could give the argument that vegans do not eat any kind of animal by-products which include eggs, milk and cheese!. But at the moment, I do not see a suitable argument to give to her!. I'm sorry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the West, most vegetarians eat eggs!. The only defining characteristic of vegetarianism is not eating dead animals!. So, no, I don't think it's strange!. If she's vegetarian for ethical reasons, all you can really do is point out the suffering that laying hens go through (and make sure she knows "cage free" or "free range" are no guarantee of humane treatment!.) In the end, it's her decision where she draws her line!. I was an egg and dairy eating vegetarian for a lot of years before it sunk in!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think a lot of this depends on WHY she's vegetarian!. If she's a big animal rights person, a lot of chickens are killed by the methods that farmers use to get eggs these days!. Then, she should probably rethink her diet a bit!.

But if she's a vegetarian for other reasons - such as religion, health, just doesn't like eat, etc!. - then I don't see what the big deal is!. Vegetarians often consume eggs and dairy; they shun fish, flesh, and fowl!. Vegans are the ones who don't eat any animal products at all, and she doesn't claim to be vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, she's considered a vegetarian!. Are you a vegan!? Unless you are I don't think you should really be judging her - and even if you are be happy that she is doing her part by not eating meat!. You can email her a link to a video that shows how chickens are treated in the processing of eggs!. That really turned me off eggs!. But other than that, don't try forcing your views on her!. She will make the decision herself if she wants to!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all chickens go through a lot of suffering!. Some are pampered and are free ranged!. I worked on a farm that had chickens and everyone of them was named!. They were treated like pets till they got older and were sold!
I'm a vegetarian and I eat eggs but not often! You won't be able to steer someone away from eggs without convincing him or her to go vegan! It's vegans that worry about the cruelity of animals!. Vegetarians just don't eat meat!.!. nothing had to be killed to have eggs! There's nothing wrong with a vegetarian having eggs! Just encourage the egg eaters to eat free range eggs instead the others!Www@FoodAQ@Com

there are various vegetarian groups and ideas!. if she doesn't eat meat, she is a vegetarian!. there are vegetarians who do eat eggs, milk products, honey, but that still counts as vegetarian!. the problem is with pescatarians, that is they only eat fish but fish is still meat yet they do debate this question!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Eggs are a animal by-product which means to eat them you're still considered a vegetarian!. Vegan is to not eat ANY animal by-products!. So as long as she doesn't eat meat she is a vegetarian and that is her choice!. You should just be happy that she is at least a vegetarian and not push her!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

She is an Ovo vegetarian and we eat eggs!. She should buy only free range eggs!. It's best to buy from a local farm!.

Chickens make eggs, if they have a boyfriend or not, just like use girls do!. If passing an egg is uncomfortable for her, it's natures fault not ours!.

BTW: I had 4 chickens of my own years ago and they don't show any signs of being in pain when they pass an egg!. They actually act happy after!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well a vegetarian is when you don't eat meat!.
a vegan on the other hand is when you don't eat anything that's made from animals such as meat, milk, eggs, cheese, any dairy products!.
so if she says she's a vegetarian then it's fine!.
but if she says she's a vegan, then she must not be a vegan!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My boyfriend is vegetarian and I was for 5 years!. We eat organic, cage free eggs!. There is nothing wrong with eating those eggs, chickens lay eggs constantly naturally and those are unfertilized so they would just rot if they weren't eaten!. It doesn't hurt a chicken to lay eggs!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

leave her alone!. i am a vegetarian and i eat dairy and eggs!. i think it is great that she is at least doing something!. i mean its a great source of protein!. i'd just give the poor girl a break, if shes like me she feels bad enough eating them, so just leave her alone!. tell her to buy cage free or free range eggs!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, it is her choice!. There is cruelty involved in the procuring of eggs for human consumption in most cases!. If anything, when the production slows to a halt the chicken is slaughtered anyway!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians can eat eggs and the chickens have to get the eggs out it doesnt really hurt them thats what they do!. Vegans dont eat any animals or food that comes from an animal like dairy, eggs, or geliten!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Goodness! Chickens naturally have eggs! Humans aren't doing anything cruel or unusual by taking the eggs and eating them!.

Being a vegetarian means she just doesn't want the poor thing strangled/slaughtered!. No one said she was a vegan!. =PWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, im vegetarian and i eat eggs!. but not much!. it is vegans who dont eat them!. its not strange at all!. if she ate chicken, and fish, than that would be strange if she considered herself vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians can eat eggs--it is vegans who eat no egg or dairy products!. It is her choice if she wants to eat eggs, there is no vegetarian 'law' forbidding their consumption!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
