Need some going vegan help ?!
I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I want to go vegan!. Problem is I'm 14, live with 4 omnis who love their cheeses!. Although my parents say they'll support me 100% going vegan, I can tell they don't want me to!. I talk to them about it, but they change the subject!.
also, I have a couple vegetarian friends, but no vegans!. When I go to people's houses and their eatign pizza or grilled cheese or something, what am I supposed to do!? Should I tell people before hand, and ask if I can bring my own meal!?
Thanks everyone!.
And to all you Rude answerers: kiss my ***!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's awesome that you've decided to go vegan! :)
It can be tough at that age if your parents/family aren't fully supportive, but just remember that no matter what, they most likely have your best interests in mind!. Your family doesn't want to see you suffering!. They're probably just set in their ways and like most people, were raised as omni's & think that's the only way to live healthily!. But, since you're already lacto-ovo, they probably know at least a little bit about nutrition for veg'ans, and I'm sure they know why you went vegetarian in the first place, right!? So, if you really feel they aren't going to support you, just sit down with them and try to make it clear how important it is to you!. Gather up a bunch of information about the health benefits of a vegan diet (b/c your parents probably really don't care about the compassion aspect), and make sure they know that it's something that you will benefit from, not only health-wise, but as far as peace of mind as well!. Since you're 14, that's too young to obtain a working permit in most states, so if your parents are buying all the food for the house, you should definitely go with them & pick out things that you like, and if you don't already, learn to cook & pick up a few good vegan cookbooks!. There are also at least a few good books out there specifically about going vegan as a teen, and/or specifically for parents of vegan teens!. You might want to find one that looks best suited to your parents, and recommend it to them!.
As far as eating as a guest!.!.!.I've gotten used to just eating a bit of something substantial beforehand, b/c I usually expect that there won't be much, if anything, for me to eat!. So, if I eat beforehand, at least I won't be so hungry that I'll have a bad time no matter what other fun stuff is happening!. And oddly, I find that my friends, or even my co-workers, who are really just acquaintances, are more accommodating than my family!. I think my family just assumes that I'll bring something for myself to eat, or that I'll eat ahead of time, etc!. At 14, I think it'd be different, since your friends are probably not doing the cooking, but their parents are!. If your vegetarian friends know you're vegan, they would probably mention it to their parents & make sure that there's at least something for you to eat!. If you have omni friends though, it might not even occur to them!. You'd probably want to make sure they know exactly what you won't eat, and ask if they'd explain that to their parents!. If it winds up that there really isn't much for you to eat, just politely refuse, and then *maybe* (depends on how well your refusal of their meal goes!.!.!.) politely ask if they have something that you can eat, even if it's just crackers or some raw veggies or a salad or something!. also, you could casually mention to your host(ess) that you'd like to bring something to share!. Everyone loves free food, and at least that way, you know you'll have something to eat!. :) You probably shouldn't ask if you could bring a whole meal for yourself!. Most people would see that as being very rude, like "What, my food isn't good enough for you!?", and that sort of thing!.!.!.especially if they don't understand why you eat or don't eat certain things!. And, it's always a good idea to carry some sort of granola bar or something like that in your purse for these types of situations!. If you feel weird eating it in front of your hosts, you could always just sneak off to the bathroom with your purse & gobble it up quick!. :/Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not vegan but I don't eat meat or dairy!. When I'm invited to someones house I ask what they're having and then decide if I need to bring my own!. I usually find out what they're having first so they don't panic when they hear what my restrictions are!. also, I have gotten in the habit of bringing snack food, usually fruit, with me wherever I go!.
As for your parents - Don't let them change the subject and remind them that you're talking about your health!. Talk to them about your nutritional needs and show them that you're dedicated and that you want to do it right!. Hopefully they'll come around!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If your parents say they support you, what is there still to talk about!? Just do it!
As far as eating at other people's houses is concerned, I don't ask: I tell them I would like to bring a dish for everyone to share!. Then I make a suitably vegan casserole or something, that's large enough to feed me as a main course, and everyone else as a side!. I don't just bring a sandwich for myself, that's pretty rude, unless I know it's a cookout; then I will bring a Boca burger or something in addition to (not instead of!) a dish to share!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

good luck, you prolly aint gottta an a** to kiss cuz you cant eat anything fattening, real vegans dont even use chapstick cuz its got pig fat in it!. Are your belts made from cow hide!? If so cant use em if your gonna be a real vegan, also alot of makeup is made from animal fat!. When you get car make sure there is no leather interior!. Real vegans cant eat a whole lot, mostly veggies, and synthetic soy products!. Like soy milk, cheese, and burgers!. Mmmmm!. sounds awsome!. On the upside, soy is extremely healthy for you!. Bringing your own food is not very ethicalWww@FoodAQ@Com
I became vegan at 11!. Lived with unsupportive meat heads!. Who LOVED their meat!. If you didn't smell meat in my house that would mean that my dad was dead (almost there, even)!.
If they support you then great!. No need to talk anymore!. They already said they support you!.
If you go to someones house and their eating non-vegan food don't eat it!. Bring your own food if you can!. Don't let peer pressure veer you of the vegan path!.
Hope this helped!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it should be your friends to tell there family that your a vegan so they can prepare for you!. And for your family, do what you want just dont talk to them about it anymore!. Maybe there sick of talking about it!. Just do what you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
if your vegetarian friends are cooking grilled cheese or pizza, just ask if you can sit it out, that you ate before you left, or just tell them, its much better when they're aware!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What do you mean by talking to them about it!?
If that means educating them or trying to persuade them, you'd be better off doing neither unless they go to you and ask for such information!.
You should always bring your own food wherever you go!. Whether it's a bag of nuts or a cooked meal in a portable container!.
Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12!.
