Is this common!? Just curious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I'm a vegetarian and I think that going vegan would be the ethically superior option!. Clearly, modern factory produced dairy and eggs are extremely cruel to the animals!. Especially egg production (I do not eat eggs either)!.

However, I don't see myself going vegan any time soon for a number of reasons:

1!. The total suffering per glass of milk is significantly less than the suffering per meat serving (such as a hamburger)!. My yearly dairy consumption is produced in probably a day or two by a single cow!.

2!. Health-wise, it is easy to pursue a healthy vegetarian diet with dairy!. I don't eat all that much dairy, but I do take a protein supplement that is derived from milk (whey protein isolate, the best protein available!.) It is difficult to pursue a healthy vegan diet, and there are theoretical questions regarding the health of a vegan only diet!.

I was a vegetarian for 9 years and just became a vegan!. I guess it's a fairly common thing for vegetarians to think about at some point!. There were a couple of reasons that compelled me!. For one, seeing videos of how chickens are treated at egg farms!. They're eyes are all crusty and horrible, they're disease ridden, their feathers plucked - even if you don't care about the cruelty involved, why would you want to continue eating a product that came from such sickly animals!?

The other thing that converted me is health reasons!. Reading about how animal proteins deplete your bones is pretty scary!. Another thing is that I'm at risk for a type of cancer that can be prevented by not eating dairy (ovarian cancer - in studies women who drank 2 glasses of milk a day were 60% more likely to get cancer than those who never drank milk)!. My family also has high cholesterol and other health issues that are preventable by reducing dairy intake!. And in general everything I've read about the health benefits of being a vegan make it worth while!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I personally dislike the labels, I'm not sure if others feel the same way!. I feel that some people might want to become a 'Vegan' just because they want to be able to call themselves a Vegan and have a 'cool' identity that is associated with it!.

I also do not believe in absolutes!. I think that every person should be able to make their own personal choice on how they wish to live more compassionately!. If you are not living 100% vegan, but you are still making conscious choices in what you eat and buy then you are still having a positive impact!.

Here's the thing!.!.!.despite what the hard-liners might say, it IS difficult to maintain a true Vegan lifestyle in the society we live in today!. You WILL be separating yourself completely from the mainstream when you make these choices!. Of course, your cause may be noble, but isn't accepting and loving those around you (who may be less perfect) important as well!? I think so!.!.!.we are imperfect people by nature, so let's just try to do the best we can, in whatever small ways we can!.

I've been vegetarian since Thanksgiving 2006!. Just a few days ago!.!.!. September 7th to be exact, I decided to go all vegan!.

I think I made the jump to veganism because of some bothersome articles I read on the internet!.

So far, its a real challenge!. Vegetarianism was a LOT easier, BUT there's no way I'm going back to eating eggs and dairy!.!.!. not after what I recently learned about dairy cows!.

But I gotta say, before going vegan, CHEESE was my favorite food for my whole life!. I could have eaten it every day!. So I had to say goodbye to some of the best tasting foods!. That part sucks!.

But in the end, I feel good about reducing suffering in our world!.
