Dissection -- courage -- veg*ns ?!

Question: Dissection -- courage -- veg*ns !?
Soon in biology class we will have to dissect a fetal pig!. I am a vegetarian, trying to go vegan!. I am against dissection!.

2 years ago we had to dissect frogs!. I was veg then -- but whenever i tried to muster up the strength to tell my teacher I couldn't/wouldn't dissect a frog, I couldn't (i also have lots of anxiety problems which was probably the main factor in this) and so i dissected the poor little frog!. the worst part, the part that made me lose sleep that night was that my frog was what my teacher called an 'immature frog' meaning she was still young!. that just killed me!. she was a baby!.

remembering her, i simply cannot dissect a baby pig!. it goes against everything i stand for, and i still get sad when i think about that little frog, and how i wish with all my heart i could've stood up for myself!.

i don't know how to tell my teacher i can't dissect a pig!. i'm scared to do it, but i really cannot dissect that baby pig!.

how do i tell her!? what do i tell her!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
When I took biology we had to dissect the pig too!. I just went up to the teacher and told her that I couldn't do it for religious reasons (a big lie)!. It was easier to say that than to try to explain that it was for ethical reasons!. Usually if you say it's for religious reasons they just leave it at that and give you an alternative assignment!. I just had to print out a picture of a fetal pig and label the parts!. It was still disgusting, but not as bad as actually doing it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

The pig is dead (and pickled in formaldehyde) already, so you will not be contributing to that!.
And you will learn a very great deal, not just about the structural anatomy of the pig but of yourself as well!. It's messy but incredibly instructive in a way no simulation can be!.
Compare the state of medicine before dissection with the vast increase in knowledge that started with Vesalius and has continued ever since!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sharia says it is Halaal to lie if it saves your family so why not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Talk to your Guidance Department or Student Services, any person of authority in your school would be more than happy to talk to your teacher for you!.

Even a friend could talk to her!

Many schools offer virtual dissection, which is all computerized!. Ask about it!.

EDIT: getting your mom to talk to your teacher about it isn't bad at all!.!.!. Do that!. Anything to get you out of it, right!?

And if talking about it gets you upset, write the teacher or the principal a note!. Like type it out!. You had the strength to type it here, so you'll be fine to basically say the same thing to a principal!.

Stay strong! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
