I am vegetarian with 2 growing boys!.!.!.12 and 9!. My children are not veggies!. I do cook meat for them!. I also cook vegetarian dishes and they do try them, some they like, some they don't!. My youngest is a lot more willing to eat some of the stuff I do, like the soy meats, they do like some of those and I substitute that any time I can!.!.for instance tacos or spaghetti!. You are right that it is your life style and not the child's!. Do talk and explain why you don't eat meat, but put it in words the child will understand!. When that child is old enough to decide if they want to eat meat or not, then that is their choice when to do so!. If they want fish sticks, just get them!. I even have to cut up meat and touch it and yuk, smell it, but I do it b/c my kids want it and I won't force my kids to be vegetarian like me!. If they choose to do so, then great, if not, then that's ok too!. So good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well I don't eat dirt and when I have children I'm not going to serve them dirt, or let them eat dirt!. I'm sure they may be tempted to try dirt at school, or a friends house, but I'm not going to buy them any!. When they turn 16 and get their own jobs they can go to KFC and buy dirt if they want, but I will not allow them to cook it in my house!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I agree with you!.!.!.I am a vegetarian and I would let my child choose!.!.!.if they want to eat meat, they can!.!.!.I would not tell anyone what to eat or what not to eat!.
My parents were not vegetarian, I just decided to and became one at age 15!.!.!.I am 27 now!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A couple family members and I are vegetarian!.We would never make our children conform to our choice!.That's something they need to decide for themselves!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Your child should choose, but I don't think you should let him/her be vegan because growing children need a lot of iron etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I lived with a Seventh Day Adventist family for about a year when I was a teen and they were raising their 3 children vegetarian!.
We prepared meals all together and they were really good!. It amazes me when I look back on it that I didn't think much about it or that it was out of the ordinary!. I do remember asking what they would do if one of the children wanted to eat meat and they said they have that choice outside of the home!.
Having had that experience I'm not sure why I didn't start my own daughter off as a vegetarian and if I could do it over again I would, even vegan!. There's so many reasons to do it that way including keeping children safe from all the many illnesses that meats can harbor including e coli and mad cow!.
However, it was my daughter who went vegetarian and took me with her in my case!. I am grateful for having had my previous experience though to show me how normal it can be for a family!.
There's no reason not to make that decision for your child!. Those who give their children meat make that decision for their children!. This is not different!. In fact, it's more akin to not giving your child beer just because they'd like to have some!.
There are however already lots of subs for chicken nuggets and even fish but a better foundation is to give your child as many veggies and healthy foods as possible in the first years so they develop a taste for it!. The candies and other foods will come soon enough!.

I would probably just raise my child vegan or vegetarian, but if they asked for meat, I'd allow them to eat it, that is their choice, but hopefully by the time they are old enough to make choices like that, I have taught them of the inhumane industry of meat and that eating meat is not only unhealthy but cruel, and that factory farms and growth hormones are not something you want to support, but, all in all, if they wanted meat, I'd give it to them, I'd try to encourage them to carry on in my footsteps and live the lifestyle I believe is best, but I would not force it on them if they didn't choose to accept it for their own lifestyle after they grew up some, nor would I chastise, criticize, nag, or try to make them change or feel bad about it!. i'm a 20 year old vegetarian as well!. i've thought about this myself and came to the same conclusion as you!. Let them decide!. babys are vegetarians anyway so it's more of not introducing meat to them unless they ask for it!. before they were given the meat after having asked for it, i would explain to them what it is they would be eating and if they still want to!.!.!. then, hey, i chose not to, why shouldn't they be able to decide!? i was six when i decided!. I am from a pure vegeterian family!.
I was told our relegion does not permit us to eat non veg!.
I was fed only veg till I got out of school!.
I tried some chicken out of curiosity since I had been deprived of that for so many years and I loved it!.
Now whenever I eat away from home, it is chicken and eggs!.
I hate the thought of eating beef as the cow is considered sacred in my relegion and we worship the cow!.
The cow is such a productive animal!. It gives you milk!.
I love the watery eyes and inocent look of cows!.
I hate the thought of slautering a cow which is such a noble animal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
