i need help understanding vegans!. I am thinking of turing vegan, i am a vegetarian and have been for about a year and a half!.

Hey! I just made the same switch - been a vegetarian a long time and recently became a vegan!. Since I'm new at this, I'm probably not as radical about it as many!. I still have leather, silk, wool, etc!. in my closet, and I'm not planning on getting rid of it!. Hell, my couch is leather and my pillows are silk!.!.!. so I would need a lot of money to replace all the stuff in my home that isn't considered "vegan!." For me right now, I am making the changes only to my diet, and I'm going to try not to buy NEW animal-based products, but enjoy the stuff I have now!.
I thought it would be really hard, but it's actually a lot easier than I thought it would be!. I'm eating a lot of the same stuff, but I was eating a lot of dairy before, so I've just cut that out!. No parmesan on my pasta, etc!. I've replaced Cheerios and milk with cheerios and vanilla soymilk!. Instead of snacking on cottage cheese or cheese and crackers, I'll have a banana, raisins, or almonds!. I no longer eat egg rolls at Chinese restaurants, but I have the same kinds of main dishes!. Indian food offers a lot of good possibilities!. I read food labels more than I used to and have actually been surprised at the foods that I thought I wouldn't be able to eat but can - packaged breads and cookies, dark chocolate, crackers, etc!. Here's what I ate yesterday:
Breakfast: Cheerios with organic vanilla soymilk, 1/2 grapefruit
Lunch: Hummus cucumber sandwich on rye with sprouts, spinach, and tomato
Evening Snack: cup of leftover brown rice with peas, carrots, corn, and green beans
Dinner (Chinese restaurant): Bokchoy and tofu with rice
Dessert: Vista Iced Oatmeal cookies Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been vegan, and it's not as hard as it sounds!. However; I wasn't a really strict vegan, I occasionally ate things with a very small amount of dairy in them, so if you don't consider me to be a real vegan, then you don't need to take my advice!. When eating vegan you may not eat any animal products; meat, fish, dairy, eggs, etc!. Obviously you can eat plenty of fruit and vegetables!. I personally am allergic to wheat, which rules out a whole lot more foods, but I eat a lot of oatmeal!. Filling and healthy!. Plus they make just about everything you could no longer eat being a vegan out of soy!. Meat, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, burgers (I think Boca is the best brand), cheese, milk, etc!. I especially love all the flavors of Silk soymilk!. Try chocolate or vanilla!. So for grains and starches you could eat pasta, potatoes, corn, bread (with margarine, not butter), etc!. Fruits and vegetables is a given!. And for protein there's more soy products then you could ever imagine!. Haha, good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12!.

No dairy products, no leather (including shoes - eew sweaty feet!), no eggs, no refined sugar (i!.e!. white), no honey (if you're being *really* picky), no fish!.!.!. so that basically leaves you with nuts, seeds, berries, and plants!. Hope your friends have strong noses!
Oh, and you're not allowed to set foot on farm land, take a trip in a horse-drawn cart or ride a horse, sit on a leather sofa or chair, nor eat *anything* with refined sugar (so no sweets for you then, ever)!. Sounds like a really boring dull existence to me!.
If you wear leather shoes or drive a car with a leather steering wheel, you're not a vegan in my opinion!. Might as well be one of those vegetarians who eats fish, or worse still chicken!. A lame half-hearted effort!
