Answers:
Vegans do not use wool!. It comes from an animal, and therefore is off limits!.
Since you're in the process of going vegan, and it's something you already have, maybe you could knit up a bunch of stuff from it & either give it away to a homeless shelter or other charity, or sell it at a craft fair or to people you know, or even on the internet somewhere, and then donate the money to your favorite animal charities!. I gave up wool about a year before I went vegan, while I was still vegetarian!. I'm not a knitter, but I gave a couple of my wool sweaters to a friend who always loved them, and then donated the rest!.
Oh, also!.!.!.Australia is one of the major wool producers in the world, but just because it's not from Australia, that doesn't make it cruelty-free!. Wool is cruel no matter where it comes from!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think in the strictest sense of the word, the answer is no!. Read this definition!. Personally, I have a lot of friends with sheep and I even have goats and have had llamas!.!.and they need to be sheared here due to weather here!. And in my opinion it's better to use it and not waste it!. But a very strict vegan would not use wool!.
Vegan: excludes animal flesh (meat, poultry, fish and seafood), animal products (eggs and dairy), and usually excludes honey and the wearing and use of animal products (leather, silk, wool, lanolin, gelatin!.!.!.)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
