Any tips or stories or anything about this? (dissection problem)?!
2 years ago in life science we dissected frogs!. I was vegetarian at that point, and i REALLY did not want to dissect frogs, but I was too shy and scared to mention it to my teacher, so I dissected that frog!. I felt so bad about it!. My partner and I had what my teacher called an 'immature female', meaning she wasn't fully developed, and that made me so sad!. She was a baby!! Uggh! And then a few days later my teacher brought in pig organs he got from a local slaughterhouse!. He had lungs, heart, intestines and the rear end!. I was so disgusted with what he did, he grabbed the butt and stuck his finger up it and said "Look, I'm sticking my finger up the pig's anus!" everyone but me laughed!. In my head I was yelling at him, saying "You can't DO that!" but of course I said nothing!.
And now I learn that next year we're dissecting fetal pigs!. Babies!. Again!. I REFUSE to be a passive wuss again and let my teacher blatantly disrespect a dead creature, and I refuse to cut one up! However, I'm so shy and I can't talk to people about things that really matter AT ALL!. I don't know what to do about it!.

My vegetarian daughter went through the same thing two years in a row-and is facing it again this year!. Both times, I had her write a polite, but assertive letter to the teacher stating her case, and offering/requesting to be allowed to go to the library during the time the dissections were taking place, and writing an essay about animals in exchange for being dismissed from the project-both times, the teachers not only agreed, but gave her an A on her essay-one was about animal cruelty, and the other was about the horrors of the food industry!. Perhaps this would be an option for you, since your shyness can be overcome in a well written letter!. Don't be long winded-just state your case, beliefs, and alternative options!. Good luck, and DON'T be pressured into this-if you get no satisfaction from the teacher, go directly to a guidance person or the Dean!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
I know how you feel!.!.!.it's common all you have to do is explain it to a friend that you can trust and see if your friend can talk to the teacher about it if you are too scared!. If your friend is also too scared you can try to talk to your teacher privately or send them an email or maybe get a parent invovled!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Honestly I am a vegan and I wouldn't say anything!. Because I want to be a surgeon when I get older and anatomy is a HUGE part, but if you aren't doing anything like that when you get older stand up for yourself! Say that you don't believe in that, but don't be dramatic about it and act like you are just doing it for attention!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegan, and am taking Agriculture Biology this year!. We will have to dissect fetal pigs as well, and I am definetly not looking forward to it!. Since I am in an Agriculture class, my teacher is a meat eater who has absolutely no respect for vegetarians!. I plan on dissecting the pig with my sister (who is in the same class) so she can do 99% of it!. I'll just take notes or something!.
Anyways I suggest you talk to your teacher privately and as respectfully and modest as possible!. Ask if there's anything else you can do instead of the dissection, such as writing an essay on the anatomy of a pig!. Hopefully you will be able to get out of it!.
