I live in a different country so I can't help with where to get them - we saw ours advertised in the local trading paper- just want to encourage you with your great idea!
We bought 6 ex battery hens dirt cheap they were only about 18 months old (so they said) and they were almost completely bald and all had sore spots all over where they had been pecking one another!.
Anyway their feathers soon grew back and they started laying plenty of eggs so not only are they a great investment eggwise, but it is so cool to see them completely restored from bald to feathery and running around doing their thing in the sunshine!.
Anyway good luck finding and rescuing some hens :)

I dont really think you can get them anywhere!? The places that have them (i cant imagine) would let them go!.
Why dont you google where there might be ones close to you and phone up and offer them money for a few!.!.!. Its worth a shot!.
Be warned though, alot of them must have health problems - If you got some they probably wouldnt be able to live for long!.!.!. or walk!.
Let me know how you get on though, if you manage let me know, i would like to do that aswell!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You would have to know someone on the inside to get any!. The way battery caged hens are treated is a dirty little secret that the industry dosn't want anyone knowing about, so they turn the old hen's into, chicken soap, or cat food, etc!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
