About Vegans. I get what kristevan explained (which if I could vote, his answer would be the best), but?!
I would really like to know what kinds of things Vegans eat and wear!. I'm really interested in this whole thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Shoes: I have synthetic shoes for work which look really excellent!. They don't wear easily and stay very shiny!. Apart from that I just have canvas shoes and shoes with rubber etc!. like everyone else!. I'm thinking about getting some nice boots soon for outdoorsy stuff
Suit: I bought a second hand wool mix suit because I can't afford to go and buy a new one made from organic materials like I'd prefer, but still, I didn't contribute to animal exploitation and most people wouldn't notice!.
Belt: Synthetic belt, looks great, doesn't wear easily!.
I buy the vast majority of my clothes second hand, apart from things like belts, shoes, underwear etc!. The latter of which I'll only get made from organic cotton!. The rest is from charity shops (good ones that don't fund animal testing)!.
What do I eat!? Well, I can eat the hundreds of vegetables and hundreds of fruits that we are fortunate enough to have been provided!. I enjoy a very healthy diet mainly of whole grains, nuts, beans, legumes, fresh fruit and vegetables and the occasional soya yoghurt, rice milk and store bought treat like a date slice or cornish-style pastie!. Meat and animal products are a small amount of food compared to what else is out there and I'm very glad not to be contributing to abuse and murder, environmental destruction and the destruction of my own health anymore!.
I'm really glad you're interested - I'd advise you to read the Vegan Society's pages on nutrition which are really informative and they keep it to the essentials: http://www!.vegansociety!.com/food/nutriti!.!.!. !. also, perhaps you could look up some vegan food pyramids to see what I mean about variety! There are loads of vegan recipes on the Internet, too, perhaps it'd be good to cook a few dishes and see what you think!?
Other things!.!.!. I don't use anything animal tested, which isn't difficult as there are so many ethical products out there now!. I wash my hair with baking soda and apple cyder vinegar!.!.!. sounds crazy but it's really good for your hair and your health and they're not animal tested and not bad for the environment!. I wash stuff around the house with boiling water and vinegar now, too, which is much better than using any cleaning fluids!.
I am in fine health and haven't taken any medication for over a year and a half now, apart from some anesthetics to get teeth taken out for orthodontic work!. Pharmacueticals are a big rip off and of course are animal tested, so I avoid them which isn't hard if you're healthy!.
Hope that helps,

Shoes and clothes that don't use any animal by-products in their manufacture are pretty easy to find - here is just one of many examples of a vegan shoe supplier http://www!.vegetarian-shoes!.co!.uk/
Vegans eat anything that doesn't come from an animal or contain animal by-products - the huge range of fruit and vegetables available, grains, pulses/legumes!.!.!. There are vegan meat substitutes, vegan versions of cheese, vegan and ice cream, vegan 'milks' and creams - it's actually possible to veganise almost any recipe!.
The point of being vegan is to minimise your personal contribution to animal suffering as much as you can!. It's not possible to eliminate it completely in the world we live in, but vegans avoid buying or using products that contain animal by-products or products that have been tested on animals as far as they can!.
Sometimes it isn't possible - for example vegans get sick like anyone else, and all medicines have, by law, been tested on animals and many contain animal by-products!. For trivial complaints, they are easy to avoid; but vegans are not martyrs and will take appropriate medicines when seriously ill or injured - not to do so is psychotic, not vegan
By the way, you can give Kristevan Best Answer - it was your question, you get to choose the BAWww@FoodAQ@Com

The simple answer is "anything that doesn't come from an animal!."
Vegans eat fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, oils, edible flowers, select fungi and everything made from them!. With a little creativity and inspiration, this is not limiting at all!. With few exceptions for dishes that rely heavily on the unique properties of egg whites, any dish can be made vegan, from the simplest to the most gourmet!. Some meals on my grocery list for this week include pad thai, chickpeas simmered in romesco sauce with saffron-garlic rice and roasted asparagus, spicy bean and spinach burritos with Mexican rice, veggie-ful chili with cornbread, Nigerian peanut soup with lots of veggies and brown rice or quinoa!.
I still have some leather shoes that I bought before I went vegan, but new shoes are either faux leather or canvas!. It's pretty easy to find clothing that's not wool, silk or leather!. I wear lots of cotton, of course!. Look at the labels on your clothes; undoubtedly many (most!?) will already be vegan-friendly!.
I addition, when I went vegan I just started replacing makeup and toiletries with cruelty-free versions as they ran out!. There are lots of brands, often in the "natural" section, that are labeled as free of animal ingredients and not tested on animals!. Nature's Gate, Alba, JASON, Kiss My Face, Avalon Organics, ShiKai and others are available often even at the grocery store!.
If you want a good overview of veganism, what it means, how to do it, etc!.!.!. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living" is surprisingly informative, and has referrals to other sources of info as well!.
