Is polenta healthy? vegan?!

Question: Is polenta healthy!? vegan!?
i just tried polenta and i THINK its vegan but not positive!. does anyone kno for sure!? and is it actually healthy!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Polenta is basically cornmeal mush, cooked very slowly and stirred constantly as water is slowly added!. But it is often cooked with chicken stock instead of water, and there are countless variations!.
As for protein, bear in mind that corn protein is dietarily incomplete for humans!. In Mexico, where corn has been eaten for centuries, it is always eaten with beans, which have the amino acids corn lacks!.
In the near future, genetically engineered corn will come on the market that does have all the necessary amino acids!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depends on what it's made with!. In the Balkan countries (Romania, Bulgaria) it's usually cooked just with salt and water!. In Italy they often use stock (which could be meat based) and it can contain milk and cheese!.
It's healthy, because it's essentially just whole dried corn kernels crushed!. It doesn't contain any gluten!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes its healthy! and its vegan of course !!! we eat that in latin america so dont worry about it -
it has everything proteins/fiber/ etc!.!.like quinoa and other grains-
rich in proteins !!!
good lucks
i used to eat that for my breakfast !!
very nutritious --

It depends on your definition of "healthy"!. Corn itself is nowhere near a balanced diet, and should not make up the majority of your intake!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

It often has butter in it, sometimes olive oil!. Depends on the chef!.

It's just cornmeal, so the nutrition isn't anything special!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
