hi I'm thinking about becoming a vegan/vegetarian, not sure what's the difference!. I'm going to continue drinking milk an eating cheese etc!.!. So how do I tell my parents and should I start my cutting out all meat or do it slowly!? I'm thinking about doing this for a month to see how it works for me and then decide if I'm going to continue or not!. I am 15 years old, I'm not doing this to lose weight just I don't think meat tastes good and I often get guilty by eating meat!.!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You'd be a lacto-vegetarian - easily the most common type of vegetarian in the world!.

I was 14 when I became one!. I just stopped eating animal flesh in one go, not gradually!. But, whichever method works best for you!. (I gave up caffeine over the space of one week - but that is an addictive drug, so I felt I had to do it gradually!.)

I was lucky in that my mother and one of my brothers were already vegetarian before me, so telling the family wasn't traumatic for either party!.

I suggest, if you don't already know how to cook, you learn quickly!. You may or may not be called upon, by your parents, to do your own *expletive deleted* cooking!. Apart from that, it's also a vital life-skill that you'll need when you go out into 'real' world!.

Before you start out on this great adventure, find out exactly what you need (vitamins, minerals, protein, etc!.) and how best to get it (which vegetarian foods are the best sources of these nutrients) - otherwise, by the end of the trial month, you could well be undernourished, anaemic, sick, etc!. and decide to give up!. If you're going to be a vegetarian, at least try to be a healthy one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I became a vegetarian when I was six years old, all by myself, my choice!. I'm now sixteen, so I've been a vegetarian for 10 years!.
Just one day, I decided to be a vegetarian and that was it!. No questions asked, no problems at all!. Of course everyone is different, but just go up to your parents and say you would like to become a vegetarian, and why you would like to be one!.

Since you plan to continue consuming dairy, you will be a vegetarian!. Most vegans do not use *anything* that came from an 'animal'!. ("Vegan is what vegan does!.")
(Some vegans see it ok if they raise free range chickens and eat their eggs, or have pet sheep and sheer their wool, but many others would frown against that)

But you need to be careful!. There are many food items our there that LOOK vegetarian-friendly, but they really are not!.
Here is a link to SOME foods that have hidden animal products in them!. I know of even more not on the list!.

And here is a link to vegetarian friendly cheese!.

Being a vegetarian will and can work for anyone!. It's just the matter of knowing what you eat and what to eat!.

Contrary to what many omnivores think, vegetarians don't only eat greens!. That is ridiculous and ignorant!. Just like saying your body needs 'certain' vitamins and nutrients in animal products!.

You can get every vitamin and nutrient from other foods!. Beans, lentils, greens, fruit, grains, nuts, etc!.

Good luck on your quest to trying out vegetarianism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A vegan doesn't eat meat, fish, poultry, milk, eggs, cheese!.!.I think they don't eat cheese!.!.not sure!. Vegetarians don't eat meat, fish, or poultry!.!.When I first decided to be a vegetarian, I didn't care for what my parents would think!. Its my decision, not theirs!. I cut out my meat consumption entirely!. They gave my chicken for dinner one day, I pushed it away and said no thank you, Im a veggie!. Its been 4/5 months and they are still adjusting!. You'll parents will probs take awhile to adjust and rmber that you don't eat meat anymore!. But, as long as u rmber, and you are doing it for the right reasons, they should support you!. Good luck!. :) Www@FoodAQ@Com

Be careful in what you consume!. You will need to learn how your body functions and what foods your body needs in order to stay healthy!. Your body needs certain nutrients only found in meats!. Before becoming a vegetarian I'd do some research otherwise you could be doing yourself some harm!.

Not liking meat is not unusual!. Just make sure you know what you are getting into!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you continue to consume dairy, you would be a lacto-vegetarian!.

Strict vegetarians and vegan people do not eat anything that comes from an animal!.

The only definitions worth repeating are from the founders of the words!.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12!.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended!.

Well a vegan doesn't eat or drink anything that comes from animals, so you would definetely be a vegetarian!. Tell your parents straight forward about becoming one and then try it slowly!. If you really don't like meat you can just quit cold turkey!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Head on down to your local government office or post office and they will supply you with an application form!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
