Until we have a real alternative, we are stuck using fossil fuels for transport and electricity!. Just because petroleum and the like are called "fossil fuels" doesn't mean they are made out of dinosaurs - they are made from all kinds of dead things that are millions of years old!.

From a strictly vegan standpoint, stuff derived from crude oil such as gasoline or plastic would be similar to something really old made out of leather - the animal is already dead and you spending money on the product won't (directly) lead to more death!. However these resources are non-renewable so they will run out one day, not to mention all the crap that is pumped into the air when they are burnt!.

Ethically the oil industry is bad karma, but they don't enslave or murder animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't seem to understand what veganism is!. There are no "hardcore" vegans!. There may be vegan people that have no life outside their quest for purity but they aren't very "hardcore"!.

Veganism is about reducing suffering and avoiding exploitation of animals!.
The science that says oil is made from dinosaurs is now strongly debated!. If it was formed from prehistoric animals, it wouldn't matter since those animals were never affected or exploited by humans!. If oil is not vegan, neither is any air or water since it has all at one time passed through the system of an animal or the atoms/molecules were once part of an animals body!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Veganism is about not harming or exploiting animals!. Oil comes from decayed, loooooong dead organic matter, mostly of plant origin!. But even if it was 100% decayed animals, it wouldn't be un-vegan because humans simply can't retroactively exploit or harm animals that have been dead for millions of years!. There are compelling reasons to wean ourselves off fossil fuels, but worrying about the vegan-ness of using extinct organic matter isn't one of them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegan and was thinking of this too!. I guess because the oil was made naturaly and the dinosaurs didn't die because of human or of cruelty (other than by the hand of earth)!.

But!. as a vegan I am also for alternative fueling!. Not really because it was dinosaurs (even though it is kinda gross that we use it like this when it was something as AWESOME as a dino once!) but because its so harmful to the environment!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, we didn't kill the dinosaurs!.!.!.they died and whether we use the oil or not is not going to make a difference ethically!.
So it's OK to use an animal product that died of completely unrelated causes (i!.e!. natural death, and besides this was 65 million years ago)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow!. China Man not knowing peanuts oil coming from the animal!. What animal do the Canolas oil coming from prease!?
Canola bears!?
Tanks you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're kidding - right!?
Vegetable, Canola, peanut, walnut, olive etc are all plant derived!. There is no animal fat involved!. Vegetable shortening looks like lard, but it's made from vegetables!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dinosaurs are made out of oil!? Hmmm, that's news to me!.

Standard procedure is that if there is an alternative then vegans would choose the alternative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

there are several vegetable oils out there!. not too may animal oils out there any more on the market!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

simply put!.!. i have no opinion!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

your kidding right!.!.oil is not old dinosaurWww@FoodAQ@Com

I philosophical vegan usually has no time for this "kind" of argument (i can assure you could pull a trolley instead a car)!.

Veg*nism is not just abt eating habit alone, but animals, ENVIRONMENTS and the earth naming a few!. Pressures are being put and science is being explored the possibilities for alternatives, like palm oil (highest probability) and soy oil!. Furthermore, more "green" automobiles can be seen on the road now!.

Cut Global Warming by Becoming Vegetarian

British physicist Alan Calvert calculates that animals we eat generate 21% of all the carbon dioxide that can be attributed to human activity!. "We could therefore slash man-made emissions of carbon dioxide simply by abolishing all livestock!." he continues: "Worldwide reduction of meat production in the pursuit of the targets set in the Kyoto treaty seems to carry fewer political unknowns than cutting our consumption of fossil fuels" They should be serving tofu tonite at Gleneagles!Www@FoodAQ@Com
