How many guys are vegetarians or vegans here?!
Im just asking this question cause it randomly came into my mind!.!.
why does it seem like there are way more women who are veggies!?!?
Do they treat it like a 'trend' or something!?
or do you think they really have a strong feeling about killing animals for food!?
and do you think guys don't become veggies cause they think 'society' would perceive that as 'weakness'!?!?
Just would like to hear your opinions :]
and also if your a guy who happens to be Vegan or Vegetarian i would like to hear your reasons why you became that way and i'd like to give you a vitural hug too lol *hugs all the veggie guys*Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lots, but not enough I'll bet!.

Meat is manly!. That's the answer!.
Fighting, killing, violence, strength!.!.!.
Eating whatever you want when you want and not concerning yourself with any of the consequences, that's manly!. You knock someone down and step over them and keep walking!. That's manly!.
Actually going out of one's way to do good for the animals, do good for the planet, eating vegetation instead of flesh etc!. Not very manly!. Being outwardly caring etc!. Not manly!. Hey, I'm no f*cking pacifist, but I'm no killer either!. I don't kill with my own hands, nor do I give money to others to do the killing for me!.
> Do they treat it like a 'trend' or something!?
Oh, I'm certain a LOT of women do follow it as a trend!. That's the way women work!. Just as men are all about the physical women are all about the psychological!.
> or do you think they really have a strong feeling
> about killing animals for food!?
Some do, some don't!. Some convince themselves just for the sake of the trend, some truly believe it!.
> and do you think guys don't become veggies
> cause they think 'society' would perceive
> that as 'weakness'!?!?
Yes!. I know so!. The same reason men do not wear the colour pink!. Because, generally speaking, most people (male or female) are weak-minded and they will do whatever it takes to be accepted by the masses!. Companies know this and create trends for the masses to follow!. So very simple!. Want to sell something, create a trend, and people will follow!. There is no one company responsible for selling vegetarianism, but it's more like a movement supported by companies that are wanting to sell their products to their specific growing demographic!. It's huge business!. WalMart is getting into organic foods, and they want to make money from it, so they are using their power to have the organic standards lowered to be able to sell products that are essentially not organic, as organic!. They have started their own certifying body, they are already the largest seller of 'organic' milk!.!.!. So, WalMart will create a trend to sell more!. Everyone wants in on this "green" movement!. I just hope it surpassed 'trend' and becomes 'normal'!.
> i would like to hear your reasons why you became that way and
Became vegan for reasons of athletic performance!.
Learnt more and more along the way of the other reasons for becoming vegan, but still my chief reason is that "I am human"!. And humans are not 'designed' nor do they 'need' to consume animals!.

I love eating a vegan diet! makes me feel so peaceful, happy and energetic!
women have more sense for mother nature than men do, so I believe it's natural for them to be sympathetic for the animals!.
And the meat industry feeds ads down men's throats that beef makes your manly and muscular!. and somehow not eating meat makes you weak!. but there is some misconception there!.
you really only need to eat animals during a food shortage crisis!. and there are plenty enough plants for me to eat that I don't need to eat meat!.
I became a vegan because of my spiritual connection with animals!.

Posts on Yahoo Groups, with the exception of Automotive and Mens Health tend to be mostly by women!. From real life experience I'd say it's around 60/40!. More women take up vegetarianism as a fad diet, but guys tend to take it up as a life style choice!. I never liked the taste of meat so turned veggie in my early 20's, I'm 52 now!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
i don't know if this is true, but i read recently something in a magazine about soy being a danger for sperm!. that is, a study showed that men who have eaten soy presented less spermatozoids than those who haven't eaten soy!. so this might be a cause!.!.!. now, of course men can avoid soy and be veggie without eating too much soy, but well!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I think there are still some social pressures that may prevent men from being vegetarian unless they're quite committed!.
My husband sometimes gets teased a bit at work about his sexual orientation when they see him eating vegetarian food!. He finds it quite amusing, but it might put a younger or less secure man off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many women are obsessed with the idea of losing weight!. A vegetarian diet appeals to them!. And teenage girls are very animal-oriented -- more than boys the same age!. So there are many more female than male vegetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
So many people of course!
Because some people can't eat from the animals or they want diet like women want to had a good body or they love animals!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegetarian, I don't eat meat because it makes me gag/throw up!. also it is sad eating an animal!. They should have their rights to be free like we are!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

According to a survey earlier this year 59% of vegetarians are female!. That means out of ten vegetarians about 6 will be women!. However, vegans tend slightly to male!.
Of all vegetarians (regardless of gender) the whys break down as:
54% cited animal welfare
53% to improve their overall health
47% have environmental concerns
39% said “natural approaches to wellness”
31% for food-safety concerns
25% say weight loss
24% for weight maintenance
It adds up to more than 100% because we can have more than one reason for being veg!. But that also means that nearly 100% of those who chose "weight loss" might have also said "weight maintenance" so those two rather than adding up to 49% of veg*ns could still have been the choice by just a quarter of those polled while those who chose those two could have also chosen all the other reasons too!. My personal original reason isn't among those listed which was political!.
I imagine for the same reason people use to dismiss women of going veg (because it's trendy, etc!.!.!.) men feel pressured to not become veg!. Having vegetarians around is uncomfortable for those who are not because they feel the need to justify not being vegetarian so instead vegetarians get ridiculed in an effort to marginalize!. Attacking sexuality is one way to do it with the idea that one is less of a man if he doesn't munch flesh (as if any of those have anything to do with each other)!. Does anyone remember, "Real Men Don't Eat Quiche" being popular!? Truth is it takes a stronger man, one who is more assured of himself to resist that pressure and do what is correct for him (and so much else)!. Not only that but I think they are incredibly sexy, smell better and have more vitality!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Women are more compassionate and are turned on by the idea of losing weight with a vegetarian diet!.
I'm a 23/m I've been a vegetarian for 8 years, to my counting!. I first made the switch at around age 13 and besides the fact that my older sister was a vegan at the time, I don't remember what called me to it!. It certainly must have been for compassions sake, because I didn't know a thing about global warming back then!. :)
I actually stopped for a brief amount of time and went back to eating meat in my mid-teens!. That was until a friend in high school talked me into becoming a vegan!. I was young at the time and had no cooking experience, so I ate a lot of frozen food lol!.
I met a girl 2 years later who happened to be a meat-eater and so I became a vegetarian, once more, so I could actually eat something with her!. In turn, she became a vegetarian and has been for four years straight!. PETA's "Meet Your Meet" made vegetarians both out of my ex and my little sister!.
I, truly and honestly, almost never get sick and I am constantly at a healthy weight!. I never take medication, either!. A big no-no for me!.

Well, I guess people would classify me as "semi-veg" (which a lot of people hate for some weird reason)!.
I don't eat red meat!. So that excludes beef and pork!. also, I don't eat turkey at all, but that's because I don't like it!. I will eat chicken and fish on occasion, but not a lot!. The reason I chose this is because red meat is really unhealthy, and well, I just don't like it either!.
And for what you said about weakness, in my opinion a real man doesn't care what other's think of him!. And if someone thinks I, or any of my friends are weak because of what we choose not to eat, it seems to me that THEY are the ones that need to take a good look in the mirror!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
