Would you trust fruits and vegetables from the 99 cent store?!

Question: Would you trust fruits and vegetables from the 99 cent store!?
My mom is a thrifty shopper, which can be good!. But she and my dad make a combined income of at least $80K a year and all the kids are out of the house!. My mom buys a lot of her groceries at the 99 cent store now, and this store is NOT in a good part of town!. Now I'm all for penny pinching, but I still buy my food at Wal-mart or Brookshires!. She gave me a bunch of produce from the 99 cent store and I personally don't want to eat it!. My husband is pretty wary of it as well and refuses to touch it!. Half of it looks like it's over ripened and some of it was rotting a little!. Needless to say, we won't be eating any of it!.

Would you trust fruits and vegetables from a 99 cent store!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
No!. I would assume that groceries from the 99 cent store were there for a reason!. Overstocked supplies, dates close to sell by, fruits and veggie exactly ripened when they put them out etc!. I would hesitant to eat anything that other stores didn't want themselves!. I would NEVER eat anything that looked overly ripe or partially rotten!.

PS- Texas mommy are you a vegetarian, too!? I never knew!

Edit: That sounds like my kids!. They can't get rid of their chicken and fish!. lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would not trust it, especially if it's over riped & beginning to rot!. It's always safe to buy fruits & vegetables from the regular supermarkets where you know it's kept freshed, clean & in a good temperature!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if theyre not too brown ! its cool---
they still nutritous anyway--
can u imagine how many children in latin american countries just go to sleep without
eating dinner or lunch ! they have to work to
earn some money/ just imagine that --- and ur worried about 99cent' product when there are lots of hunger people in the world---

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk!. If it just saves you a little bit of money, isn't it worth it!? Plus, Wal-Mart is actually fairly cheap!. Now Stop&Shop has some crazy prices though!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't trust fruits or veggies that are starting to go bad and you can find bad stuff at any store!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!.
I trust their condoms as they only break 9 out of 10 times!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i would say it's alright as long as they look good and aren't too brown!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wash it first (do that to wal mart fruit too)!. Other than what's on the outside, produce won't hurt you!. 'Disease' doesn't leak in from that bad neighborhood into the flesh of an orange!.

I'd check it carefully first to make sure it wasn't going bad before I bought it, but over ripe or even rotting fruit isn't going to kill you, and it's easy to tell if it's going bad!. I just wouldn't want to waste my money on food that's going bad as I bought it!.

Meat from a dollar store!? I probably wouldn't do!. But you can actually get food poisoning from spoiled meat!. You can't from a spoiled apple!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have to trust meat eaters who eat every dirt from a stomach of dead, rotten animal full of pesticides and poop!.
Atleast that way fruits are safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
