What do vegetarians have in defence of this?!
Vegetables have living cells in them and so do animals!.
Vegetables are live beings, just in a different form and way of human beings and animals!.
And how does anyone know if vegetables and fruits are screaming out in pain or not when we rip them out of the ground and cut them up!?
So, I'm wondering, what do vegetarians and vegans have in defence of this!?

I do find value in your question, and I don't think that a lot of the vegetarians who dismiss it as ignorance really think about the ethics behind killing for food!. We all kill to survive; such is the unfortunate state of our being!.
As many of the answerers stated, plants have not been found to have a central nervous system nor a 'brain' to interpret signals from said system!. In this effect, we believe that plants do not feel pain the same way that we do!. They can sense injury, which is obvious from things such as clotting mechanisms from mechanical injury to immune response to bacterial or viral infection!.
In our modern society, humans seem to lust for animal flesh, rather than eat it on occasion!. It is the central part of most American meals, which creates a huge demand for it!. To supply that demand, animals are produced, raised, and slaughtered in truly appalling conditions!. They live a life of torture, and die in a most fearful, painful, and careless manner!. For me, it is the modern method of raising and slaughtering animals that I cannot condone or support!.
Because we as humans can understand and empathize with the pain that an animal feels is why there are grounds for defense of eating a plant-based diet rather than an animal-based diet!. To understand the suffering of another creature only to support its suffering for one's own pleasure is at best ignorance and at worst barbaric!. I would like to think that most meat-eaters simply do not think about how their meat got on their plate!.
To answer your question, no one really knows for certainty that plants do not feel pain; we know that they do not feel pain the same way that humans or animals do!. I wonder how does not knowing if a plant feels pain justify inflicting pain on an animal!. I don't feel that this type of reasoning does justify animal cruelty, which is why I do not support the modern methods of raising and slaughtering animals for food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We may not know if vegetables hurt, but we know for sure that animals do!. also vegetables still have living cells for quite some time after you pick it (pretty much until they rot)!. And say you pick a flower or a squash or some other plant part--plants can regenerate, so for example, picking a carrot would kill the plant, but you can put the carrot tops in water and they will regenerate a new carrot in a week or so and live on!. Do people actually take the measures to keep plants from dying!? Unlikely, but it can be done!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
First of all, there is no concrete evidence that plants can feel pain!. There is however concrete evidence that humans and non-human animals feel pain!. There are some studies that suggest plants release certain chemicals when they are cut but this is a basic function of anything that is living!. Plants do not have brains so they cannot feel pain!.
Second of all, vegetarian and especially vegan diets require a lot less plant killing than diets that include meat, dairy, and eggs!. Animals raised for food require multiple times more plants than humans do!. Instead of eating the plants directly, they are siphoned through animals to make a relatively small amount of meat!. And with all the water that animals raised for food require, there could have been so many plants saved if they had had the water to sustain them!.
Thirdly, this is the stupidest argument anyone can use and I laugh at the ignorant idiots who try to use it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm glad you asked this question, sonny!. Glad you asked it!.
1!. Correct - vegetables and animals both have living cells in them!. However this has nothing to do with sentience or felt pain!.
2!. Yes, vegetables are live beings!. However this has nothing to do with sentience of felt pain!.
3!. When you cut an animal whilst it is still conscious, with a knife, what happens!? It starts to bleed!. If you cut a tree - the reaction is quite similar, however, it’s not the blood that signifies or represents pain - it’s the nerve cells!. Plants don’t have nerve cells!. Therefore they cannot feel the functional equivalent of "pain"!. It has been scientifically proven by heaps of scientists that plants lack a central nervous system, pain receptors, brains and a heart!.
Have you seen the cruelty towards animals on factory farms!? The chickens get de-beaked, the cows are induced with a specialised hormone to make them produce 10L of milk per day - which is distressing, cruel and un-natural!. Take a look around you! Cruelty is so prevalent in today's society!
So what's your excuse for eating meat!?!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd say you need to take a closer look at vegans, specifically Jains!. The whole idea there is to not eat anything not willingly given by the Earth!. So garlic (which is harvested by pulling it out of the ground) is off limits, but another spice (asafoetida) is often substituted!. Asafoetida is a resin and apparently saps out of some kind of plant without damage to the plant!. There ARE people out there who live like you're describing, and try not to hurt even the slightest thing!.
And so on!. I am sure there are some lesser and more strict observers out there, but this is the gist of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We know that vegetables are not screaming out in pain because they have no nervous systems!. They have no brains!. They do not possess the physiological structures required to experience pain!. What would be the purpose of a pain response in an organism that cannot either defend itself or flee!?
Besides, veg*ns are responsible for the "suffering" and death of fewer plants than meat eaters, not more!. It takes tons of grain to feed a cow and the return in meat is far less than what the cow was fed!. By eating plant food directly rather than cycling it through a cow, we are killing fewer plants!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Apple comes down from tree without tree being killed!.
where as fishes are being pulled out from water and cry in misery and pain of death and loosing life!.
Vegetables and fruits comes to your hand and it comes from top to bottom of your hand!. Whereas animals , fished they have to be grabbed, pulled and murdered!.
Try doing with human kids, human babies!. Menu of cannibals!!! :
roasted Women breast(chicken breast), fried man thigh(animal thigh),
human belly(pork belly), human ribs, human baby white meat ( veal)!.
What if some super human have this type of menu in their restaurants!? I think we would love it , the way we human love animal steaks, their breast, ribs, thighs, legs etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You must not have graduated second grade yet, otherwise you would know that plants don't die when they are harvested-you pick the ripened fruit or veggie, but the plant keeps on producing!. I have been gardening for years, and have yet to hear a fruit or veggie scream!. Ever notice them laying on the ground!? Thats because the plant dropped them in order to produce more!. Think the same thing applies to a mother cow!? Furthermore, fruits and veggies have no central nervous system, so they cannot feel pain, nor do they have a brain, or blood supply!. Despite the reasons someone has for going veggie, why should they have to "defend" their choice of what they eat!? Perhaps you are just trying to make yourself feel better about your own choices!. It will take a little more than this, I should think!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetables do not have nerves, therefore cannot feel pain!. This is basic knowledge!. To even wonder is that is a valid argument is ridiculous!. Cells are bound to be in almost everything you eat, and eating a cell isn't really an issue!.
Why don't I eat meat!?
Vegetables don't have a face
They can't think for themselves
They don't have a family
Overall, they are not sentient beings!.

Yes, all living things and beings have cells, but plants are not beings!. Plants do not have a central nervous system so they cannot feel pain!. And since they are rooted to their spot, what would the point of a pain response be!? They do not "scream in pain" when ripped from the ground, the tree, or the vine!.
And as others have pointed out, many times before, it takes between five and fifteen pounds of plants to produce a pound of meat, so you meat eaters cause more plant deaths than vegetarians!.
Ima Vegan--"defence" is the British spelling!. Our little troll apparently is not in the U!.S!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you promise to watch a video of what goes on in a slaughterhouse, I'd be more than glad to watch a video of a strawberry harvest!. Just so you know, plants do not have a central nervous system - they do not have organs, they have no pain receptors!. They have nothing that would indicate the ability to feel pain!. There is a difference between mowing my lawn and hanging a mother cow upside down by the neck, and slitting her throat until all the blood gushes out!. If you cared about plant welfare, the first thing you would do is boycott animal products (you have no idea how much grain goes into a pound of chicken, and you have no idea how much goes into a pound of beef)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
man you better watch out on thuis forum, them vegetarians can get mad at you if they want, i posted a question on here asking what would you do if you knew for sure plants felt pain, and then some vegan bum got it deleted, i even repealed and they denied it, i guess its against the rules to say plants have pain -!.-
well if plants do feel pain i wouldnt think the fruits of them would feel it, i dont think fruits like strawberries are living, and if they are there life is only like 12 days or something after there ripe before theyd rot so idk how cruel it would be to kill something 12 days before it would die anyways, but a dairy cow can live for 20 years on a good farm but with the national oscar mayer wanker or whataver farms, they usually die of disease and poor conditions before theyre age 5Www@FoodAQ@Com

Science!. Plants don't have a processing unit, like a brain, to process sensations!. Therefore they cannot "feel"!.
Plants cannot feel pain and they are not sentient, and those are the key differences!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Picking fruits off of trees isn't killing a plant!. Fruits and berries are supposed to be eaten in order to spread seeds!. Plus plants don't have nerves!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Defence isn't a word!.
