I recently read ( a month or so ago, though can't find now to point you in the direction), from a non-vegetarian piece actually, that B-12 is found in the dirt of good, quality soil!. And this can really only be found in sustainable and organic soil!. The catch is that you can't wash your veggies and fruits, because you are washing the soil containing the B-12 away!. I never got around to verifying this, but it makes sense since the idea of where does the cow get it plays here!. Something to look into that would include a raw vegan diet!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most seaweeds are a great source of B12!. Try Nori (which is what is used in sushi), arame, hajiki, wakame, kombu and others!. You can eat them raw, in salads, or in gently heated broths, which would still be raw if you kept the temperature below 117 degrees!. You can also get B12 from molasses, nutritional yeast (not bakers or brewers yeast) and many legumes, pulses and beans (you can grind them into flour, and add them to raw crackers, etc)!. I find that a good rule of thumb is to try an 80/20 raw diet-meaning you eat about 80 percent raw, and the other 20 percent lightly cooked or steamed!. That way, you have a few more options for getting your nutrients without the use of supplements or vitamins, which are totally unnecessary for any well balanced diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want to be vegan, you need to take a B12 supplement!. Even fortified foods won't offer the best protection!.

Unless you have set out to prove that being vegan is unhealthy, take a supplement and stop trying to be pure or whatever it is that you're aiming for!.

"Brewer's and nutritional yeasts do not contain B12 unless they are fortified with it!. At least two vegan B12-fortified yeasts are currently on the market: Red Star Vegetarian Support Formula and Twinlab Natural Nutritional Yeast (verified to be fortified with B12 via personal communication with Twinlab June 3, 2003)!. Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to relying solely on B12-fortified nutritional yeast for B12:

* Nutritional yeast often comes from bins in health food stores!. If not careful, it would be easy for a store employee to order the wrong nutritional yeast out of the distributor catalogs which often list many yeasts!. It would also be easy to accidentally put the wrong yeast into the Vegetarian Support Formula bin!.
* B12 is light sensitive!. Nutritional yeast is likely to be exposed to the light because it is often stored in clear bins or plastic bags!.
* At least one vegan who thought he was getting B12 from nutritional yeast developed B12 deficiency symptoms that cleared up upon taking a B12 supplement!."

I repeat, please take a vegan B12 supplement if veganism is important to you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is a lovely debate about nutritional yeast (namely red star with it's high b-12 level) being raw or not, but Parma! is awesome, it's nutritional yeast, with raw walnuts, and celtic sea salt, and has some great taste with plenty of B-12!. also, without being too explicit, intimate bodily fluids contain b-12!. just know and trust the person you are intimate with and make them get tested on a regular basis!. There is also a debate about not washing your hands and getting naturally occuring b-12 that wayWww@FoodAQ@Com

The healthy bacteria in the colon will make all the B vitamins including B12!. All you need to do is make sure your bacteria is healthy by taking acidophillus capsules!. Once you've done that the bacteria should be able to synthesize the B12!. Cooked food, in particular meat and dairy will destroy the healthy bacteria!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

lol carrots do have "b" vitamin but not enough of it!. Kelp and other sea plant(grass etc) have enough of b12 vitamins for a day and more in 1-2 servings!.!.!.!.!.there are also potented b12 vit(which are made of kelp and other seaweeds!.!.!.try to buy without capsules!.!.!.tablets one!.!.!.because some capclues are made of animals(i think fats of animals)!.!.!.i am sure)
there are ppl who believe Egs and fish are vegetarian food but its not(fish is living oragnism and egs are like when a human mother is just pregnent(between 1-3 months)!.!.!.its up to you now)Www@FoodAQ@Com

most raw sea vegetables have a good source of b12!. spirulina and fermented foods too!.

There are no non-animal sources of B-12

Unless you use a supplement

Woody (King Carrot) doesn't know what they are talking about!. Carrots have NO protein or B-12Www@FoodAQ@Com

Seaweed would be about the only raw form of B12, but I'd still recomend taking a supliment!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
