Question: Are butter substitutes vegan!?
i use Smart Butter and I cant believe its not butter

are they vegan!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Some are, some are not!. Many margarines have whey in them!. There's one version of Smart Balance, which will say vegan on the label, that's vegan, and Earth Balance is also vegan!. For stick margarine, check out Willow Run or Earth Balance Smart Sticks (or something like that)!.

Moral of the story: Read the label!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most margarines are not vegan!. Whey is a common culprit!. I don't know about the brands you're using - you'll have to read the ingredients!.

I *think* one of the varieties of Smart Balance is vegan!. Or look for Earth Balance, which is marked vegan right on the package and tastes wonderfully buttery!.

(Ghee is not vegan, it's clarified butter!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can also make your butter, just add some organic extra virgin olive oil with some sea salt (to your liking), mix it and then put it in the freezer!. You know all the ingredients and it's more affordable!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some are vegan and some are not!.!.!.you have to read the back of the package carefully!.

You can also use Gee (an Indian Vegan product)!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

They probably aren't!. But then again I don't like butter so I don't need to sub it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
