Foods suitable for vegans?!

Question: Foods suitable for vegans!?
I'm 17 and a vegetarian!. Last night i was looking at websites and found out that there are also other things from animals in food besides milk, egg and cheese which have scientific names!. So i have decided to go vegan!.

I have found various websites that list the non - vegan ingredients which is good but it doesn't say much about emulsifiers!.

Are all emulsifiers not suitable for vegans!? If not, can you provide a list of which ones to look out for or which ones are ok!.

I went shopping just before and got Fruit and nut bars from the brands 'Go Natural' and 'Be Natural'!. The ingredients they contain which im not sure about are: soy lecitin, humectant (glycerol), molasses, Glucose (from maize), Emulsifier (471) and chicory extract (inulin)

Please let me know if these are not suitable for vegans so i know whether i can eat them or not!. Thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
According to this website, it is an animal product!.

And according to this one it is not:

Chances are, if it is vegan, it says so somewhere on the label!.

Your best bet is to either check the company website, or send them an email!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I eat vegan at home, and to ensure I'm not eating animal products, I make everything from scratch!. I can't recommend this enough - you know what goes in, it's all natural, and you can make it taste exactly how you like it!. This way you don't have to worry about what other people might put in your food!. If you want snack bars, you can easily bake your own!. My cupboard staples are:

Plenty of dried/canned beans and lentils
Seeds
Dried fruit
Wholemeal Pasta
Wholemeal Rice
Fresh Veggies
Plant Milk (soya, oat)
Spices
more specialist products: egg-free mayo, blackstrap molasses

Anyway, I can make a lot from these few ingredients!

On emulsifiers - if the vegan society doesn't make a fuss about them, the chances are they're ok!Www@FoodAQ@Com
