Are marshmallows really made out of pigs?!


Question: Are marshmallows really made out of pigs!?
So I heard marshmallows were made out of pigs!.
like the gelatin!.
and im a vegetarian
so once i heard about that, i stopped eating things containing gelatin!.
and all i wanna know is

are pigs really killed just to make marshmallows and gelatin!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Technically, marshmallows are not made of pigs!. Marshmallows contain gelatin, which is made from the bones, connective tissues, and hides of slaughtered animals (usually cows or pigs)!. Gelatin is a byproduct, as no animal is slaughtered just for his bones!.

Traditionally, marshmallows were made from the root of the mallow plant!. Today, most marshmallow recipes call for gelatin and corn syrup!. The most readily available form of gelatin, Knox powder is indeed an animal bi-product!. Two other forms of gelatin are readily available however that are both seaweed based!. Look for Carrageen (Irish Moss) or Agar-Agar!. Specialty food stores and nutrition centers usually have these and they can be used as a simple replacement for Knox!. Gelatine is made from the connective tissue of an animal, usually from a pig or a cow!. Gelatine is in most candy including marshmallows!.

gelatin is the solid substance extracted from collagen in animals connective tissue, mostly in their hooves!. so i suppose you can say it does come from pig's hooves
