Would this be totally wrong of me? ?!

Question: Would this be totally wrong of me!? !?
In my school, a group of girls started a campaign against animal cruelty--sponsored by Peta2!. I signed the petition to stop cruelty against KFC, and one of my friends starts going off about how they're just chickens and they're going to die anyway!. Another one of my friends--later on--agreed with it too!.

Would it be totally wrong of me to compare torturing a chicken to Make A Wish Foundation!? I mean, kids in that program are going to die soon, too!. Does that mean we should break their arms, chop off their legs, and cut off their lips because they're going to die in a couple of days!?

And I know the argument, "but this is a child, not a chicken!." Well, since God doesn't exist in the animal rights act, technically we are all equal!. Every living creature has something in common: the instinct to survive!.

I agree that we should put our own species first, but some of the things they do to animals in commercialized farming are simply horrifying!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

The issue is that chickens are being bred to become people's food and are treated horribly in the process!. I probably would not have made the comparison to the dying child; there's a difference between breeding the animals to be murdered for food and a parents having a child they had hopes for that were cruelly shattered!.

Chickens are not the dumb animals many speciesists think they are!. Chickens can recognize 50 other chickens in a group and knows who is higher or lower in the order (hence the term "pecking order")!. Chickens can solve simple puzzles!.

If someone says "It's just a chicken," you might want to point out that it doesn't mean their lives are not valuable to them!. If you're a believer, you could always remind them that chickens are your god's creatures as well!. And yes, they're going to die, but they'll live a lot longer if slaughterhouse workers don't kill them for food or slam them against walls in frustration!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Totally agree with Julia!.

Comparing conditions the meat industry to dying children is in poor taste and will only elicit an emotional response rather than educate!. Rational thought and facts will provide ample argument for your case!. :o)

Maybe ask them how they'd feel if you told them puppies were the ones being tortured to provide them their burger or nuggets!? Then again I guess some people won't find that offensive either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We need to eat, and this will never stop no matter how many organizations are out there!. Until then, you can hope that chickens evolve and fry us every night for dinner!. You wouldn't want that would ya!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

That is wrong, yes!. Those chickens were bred to be killed and eaten!. They most likely wouldn't survive in the world!. The kids were bred to live their life out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, I guess animals aren't really an issue because we need to eat anyway!. So we have to breed them for eating!? if we don't kill animals how are we possibly going to survive!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

chickens arent children!. chickens are meant to be eaten those children are just misfortunateWww@FoodAQ@Com

as others have said:

chickens are bred to eat; humans are not!.

therefore, your argument makes no sense!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!.

That way I can have all the Tony Hawk visits to myself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you said it perfectly! Www@FoodAQ@Com

blah blah blah bambi is dead and so is the KFC I just ateWww@FoodAQ@Com

I think that it is never right to hurt any sentient creature -- person or animal!. If an animal must be killed, the procedure should be done in a humane way!. The Humane Society has initiated a crusade for governmental intervention to prevent cruelty to cows and steers en route to slaughter!. Just because a creature is not human does not indicate that it is incapable of feeling pain; of course, it will suffer and cry if subjected to hurtful treatment!. Anyone criticizing or harassing you for your stance should just imagine how he or she would feel if tortured and abused prior to experiencing a hideous death -- those without compassion for helpless animals may soon lack feelings for their fellow human beings as well!. Your signing of the petition against abuse of chickens was a kind, courageous, and right-minded thing to do!. Congratulations!Www@FoodAQ@Com

In my school, a group of girls started a campaign against animal cruelty--sponsored by Peta2!.
Sounds great!.

I signed the petition to stop cruelty against KFC,
Sounds great and specific!.

and one of my friends starts going off about how they're just chickens and they're going to die anyway!.
True!.

Another one of my friends--later on--agreed with it too!.
Okay, it's her right!.

Would it be totally wrong of me to compare torturing a chicken to Make A Wish Foundation!? I mean, kids in that program are going to die soon, too!. Does that mean we should break their arms, chop off their legs, and cut off their lips because they're going to die in a couple of days!?
No it doesn't mean that at all!. When all of this chopping and cutting is done to a chicken they are already dead; and they are apart of the human food chain!.

And I know the argument, "but this is a child, not a chicken!.
True!.

" Well, since God doesn't exist in the animal rights act,
That will always be a subject for debate!.

LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY!.!.!.

technically we are all equal!.
I'm on your side so I'll still say; true!.
Every living creature / (including HUMANS) has something in common: the instinct to survive!.

I agree that we should put our own species first,
True!.

but some of the things they do to animals in commercialized farming are simply horrifying!.
From primative man to modern day hunters and commercialized farming processing has not improve on it any better either; except that the chickens are killed first (brief pain if any) a few seconds before they are chopped up and cut (the horrifying pain)!. This is what is called compasionate farming or harveting that you have mentioned!.

Your heart is in the right place along with mine and others; but its pointless as there is no alternative except for humanity to quit eating chickens!. We can't control what others do but we don't have to join them either!.

And we don't need meat!. Have you ever heard of vegans dying off in masses because of their diets!? I didn't think so!. Do the research!.

Emotions don't have anything to do with pain!. Animals feel physical pain just as much as humans do, and that's all that should matter!.
Www@FoodAQ@Com

Commercialized farming is terrible - they have all sorts of horrific things they do to animals; I learned that from an early age through the internet!. However, on most farms, there's a certain type of animal that's bred just for its fat!. They have bred a type of chicken to have much more meat than usual, and have raised it through a machine or by hand [something like that - I don't remember clearly], so that it wouldn't be able to survive on its own if it were left to live its life!.

also, chickens aren't as emotionally in touch as humans are, so doing something like that to a dying human would be much more torture than to a simple-minded animal!. It's not like we would eat humans anyway - we'd have no use to cut off their arms, legs, etc!.; but we do have that use for chickens!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think its wrong of you at all to compare torturing chickens to the Make A Wish Foundation!. It's like comparing pigs to three-year old kids!. Pigs are just as intelligent as a three year old child!. Would you eat a three year old child!?

Last year in my English class, we debates on current issues!. Me and my partner debated on animal rights!. I did pro-veganism One thing I noticed is, there was VERY little legitimate information on why humans should eat meat and the arguments against vegetarianism!.

I ate a vegan diet all of last year and I felt very healthy in that duration of time!. I ate SO many more vegetables than I normally do, and I lost some weight!. Now, I do eat meat (no red meat though)!. I don't eat a fraction of the amount of vegetables that I used to get when I was vegan and I'd like for that to change !. See, it was very difficult to be the only vegan one in your family!. My whole Alaskan, moose-hunting family eats a lot of meat!.

A popular anti-vegan argument is : animals eat each other, why can't we eat them!? Now I'm not too sure if I agree with this next statement, but the argument is, we are not wild like animals (such as a bear), like when you see road kill on the street are you tempted to eat it!? No!. Morally, I *don't* know if its right or wrong to be vegetarian or eat meat!. But I try to do the best I can to limit my meat eating!.

I totally agree with you about animals feeling physical pain just as much as humans do, because they do!. There are more humane ways to eat meat!. The things that happen at slaughterhouses are absolutely atrocious!. I'm not 100% against eating meat-- but if people are going to eat it then they should eat it sparingly!.

EDIT: Timbo- you are ignorant!. Do some research!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think as long as they kill the chickens in a humane way then it should not be an issue for those who choose to eat meat/chicken!.

If we didn't kill animals there would be too many on the planet!. Before you say "well does that mean we should kill people too cos there will be over population", the answer is no because animals breed more than humans do!.

A human can only carry 1 child and in some cases more but very rare and we have to carry them for 9 months at a time whereas an animal can breed soon after giving birth!.

Any way there is so much controversy surrounding being vegan or not I suppose at the end of the day each to their own!.

But I think it's important not to abuse animals and kill then in a cruel way just so we can consume them, done in a humane way is the way to go!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know whether right or wrong can be easily answered here, but what you're suggesting would be totally distasteful!. I think that's what you want to know!.

I agree 100% with you that saying "They'll die anyway, so it doesn't matter if we cause them pain" is demented!. But the argument that you make is pretty twisted, too!.

It cheapens your issue and trivializes children with terminal illness!. You might disagree, but what you are doing is essentially reducing their situation to an analogy!. Face it: these kids are dying!. Lots of them are in pain and have to endure very nasty treatments to give them a few more days, weeks, or months!. They deserve a lot more than being used to illustrate a point!.

Cruelty to animals also deserves more than highly emotional comparisons to humans!. You can make your point using facts quite easily and arguments like that are far more difficult to argue with!. Appeals to fact are far more effective to those to emotions and values because they're harder to argue with!. Facts are more objective!. Values differ from person to person and emotional reactions to issues vary widely!. also, using emotional arguments can backfire!.!.!. people can feel deceived or manipulated and then not trust you!. (Not good for business!.)

Additionally, God may not exist in the animal rights act, but God (ethics, G-d, morals, karma, the gods, whatever you want to call it) exists in human discourse!. The human element and perception of the animal rights act is far more important than the words themselves!.

Using that example would be shooting yourself in the foot!. I'm a vegetarian and I think the conditions that food animals endure is disgusting!. But I think comparing that to kids who are sick and dying is also disgusting!.

You cite emotions as well!. Emotions are really important!.!.!. you're asking about using an emotional argument!. Look at how people are reacting!. Emotions and pain are inextricably linked!. Pain and our reaction to it is very emotional!. A dying child is not the only person who suffers!. Their family suffers!. Their friends suffer!. The doctors, nurses, and caretakers who developed relationships with them through their lives suffer!. Like it or not, there's a much smaller ripple effect when an animal dies!. (Fewer opportunities for developing relationships means fewer effected by a death!.)

Lastly (because it's ethically the least important), your argument isn't effective!. The vast majority of the people to whom you present your argument will NOT accept that kids in the Make A Wish Foundation are equal to (or even comparable with) animals used for food!. The obvious species difference aside, these children are being treated to survive!. They are going to die soon, but it is not the intended outcome!. Gross as it is, these chickens were born to die!. Nobody wants a child to die!. Nobody profits from it, or wants to see it happen!. As for chickens!.!.!. well, look at the price of meat!. People definitely benefit!.

In short, there are better ways to make your point and you should find them!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chickens are bred for eating, they serve no other purpose except for laying eggs and being eaten!.

Humans are made to live!. This is a MAN's world, not a chicken's world!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
