Vegetarian options to shortening?!
I'm not a vegetarian at all and definitely love my meat and potatoes diet, but some things I just can't handle!. I made biscuits yesterday and read on my shortening canister that the product is "Prepared from Meat Fats and Vegetable Oils!.!.!."!. Yuck! The first thought that came to mind was the drip pan from my George Foreman grill full of bacon fat!. Are there types of shortening or shortening substitutes that aren't made from meat fats!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You just have to read the ingredients, their are many 100% vegetable shortenings!. Watch out for hydrogenated fats they are nothing but poison!.
BTW: If meat fat grosses you out, give up hamburgers too, they are 30 to 50% meat fat!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Earth Balance makes good vegan shortening sticks!. I keep mine in the freezer and suggest you do the same!. When you're making a recipe that calls for it, measure it out, zap it in the micro for about 20 seconds, and then use in your recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I think meat fat is what make the biscuits tasted great and it has higher heat tolerance than veggie oil!. Try baking without oil or just veggie oil one day and see what you get!.!.!. probably not the results you want or the texture you craved!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
