Those who are against buying animal products...?!
I'm against buying leather and animal products generally, but I was wondering if you were to buy a SECOND HAND leather handbag would that be ok!?

I know exactly what you mean!. I am torn on this one actually!. I still wear my leather products from before I stopped buying leather, and have thought about this issue in the past!. I think it does make it better actually, you are not supporting a need/demand industry where if they sell more leather, more leather will be produced!. However, I sort of think if you didn't buy the second hand goods, someone who has no problem with leather might, and this might prevent them from buying brand new leather boots or whatever!. also, if you look good in leather products you're encouraging others to buy leather too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I heard this question on my favorite vegan podcast once!.!.!. It seemed to very much irritate them!. Yes, purchasing secondhand leather is better for the Earth but that's only because of the widespread existance of the leather industry!. If you are a vegan (or even a vegetarian)you should not be buying leather, if you're considering it then there's likely a looser personal moral grip somewhere(no offense, I'm saying that you are looser in that aspect then someone like me, b/c I'm real strict about it)!.
Peacock feathers still support a industry that has cruel aspects!. Even with pearls, where unnatural production is enforced!. I wouldn't buy them!.
Are you a vegan!? True vegans don't buy ANY animal products(I know in cosmetics they are hard to avoid, but clothing and food is much, much easier)!. Please do your part for the animals, don't buy leather!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It also supporting financially slaughter by-product!. One party is demanding for 2nd hand product, while another party is encouraged to put up for sale the obsolete in order to buy the latest product!.
The male peacock is perhaps the most beautiful bird in the world!. Many peacock species are in extinction danger!. Peacock feathers have long been a major fashion accessory, which placed the peacock in danger from poachers!. But that fad has faded along with many others that have endangered other animals, like the ostrich (which can be seen in the Africa page) and the emu (which can be seen in the Australia page)!. The God has the absolute reason for male peacock possessing the beautiful feathers!. If he could speak, he would say NO to human!.

Haha, you're just like my mum!.
She's strongly against animal products and yet, I still manage to find mistakes in her silent protest (eg!. woolen boots, leather things etc!.) She just can't stick to it lol!.
Anyway to your question, I think it would be fine to buy one!. The whole point of not buying animal products is to stop the companies killing these poor animals and making these products!.
However, if an animal has already been killed and made into a bag, been brought by someone and sold again, it is fine to buy that bag!. I mean, you can't bring the animal back to life and the company has already made profit from the bag anyway so what's the point in not buying it!?
My advice would be to buy the second hand stuff only and don't buy the 'new' animal products!.
As you say, the bag is only going to sit somewhere and rot, so why not make the most out of it!?
It is OK to buy it in my opinion!.
With regards to the peacock feathers, same story!. If the animal has been killed then don't wear them!. If the animal has only been 'plucked' then it should be alright!.
Same as before, it they are second hand it is alright to wear regardless of whether the animal has been killed or not (it sounds awful, but true)!.
Thanks for the question :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think that there is an easy answer to this question!.I think most people are against causing animals to experience pain !.I think that it is really up to you what your conscience will allow!.I don't think it really matters if the bag is new or second hand if you are going to be against the use of animal products!.Some people consider it wrong to wear a fur coat and yet will think nothing about enjoying lobster dinner( knowing the lobster was boiled alive)!.This question is really based on our culture!.In the Western countries we have so much ,we have the luxury of making choices!.In some countries food is scarce and it is acceptable to eat dog whom we consider man's best friend not an entree!.The Inuit people used to practise being environmentally friendly by not wasting any part of the caribou!.Wabby , buying the purse second hand is being environmentally friendly in that this purse will not end up in a landfill!.As in all things in life make choices that you can live with!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well, generally something such as a handbag (or belt, or shoes, etc) is meant for going out and being seen with and that gives the impression that leather, even second-hand which only you will really know better, is acceptable and good!.
Better would be to find a really cool and funky handbag that people will ooh and aah over whether done by an artisan (check eBay under DIY) or made by yourself making it even more special!. I have a belt I love which is more sturdy than leather made from a recycled bike innertube bought from a hemp clothing shop!.
Here are some sites on the cruelty of leather which even if a by-product of meat adds profit to a mean industry to check out for more understanding and ideas:

As for the peacock feathers!.!.!. apparently there is such as thing as cruelty-free, naturally dropped feathers to be found but I've no idea how those would be verified!.

Re: your own diet, I know you didn't really want to discuss but any meal you eat that's veg*n is one without meat so that's a plus!. It would seem that with injections needed that you aren't getting the b12 you need from meat anyway (many people do have b12 issues regardless of diet, not because of veg*nism) and there are lots of veggie alternatives that are fortified with the vitamin!. Maybe someday you can get a session with a veg-friendly nutritionist as the medical establishment is just as meat-centered as the general population in part because doctors and nurses receive precious little nutrition training (a few hours usually at most, if any), are just as susceptible to industry propaganda and tend to be just as defensive since as meat-eaters a person who chooses not to forces people to either question their own habits or consciously resist which is uncomfortable!.
But again, anything you do is better than nothing!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not a good idea if you want to stick to your "guns" (bad metaphor- I know)
By wearing a product that is (right or wrong) an animal product EVEN a fake you are promoting the popularity of that item!. I did the same thing years ago and still have a fur coat in my closet!. I don't wear it but will not sell it either!. Guess I will not solve that dilemma until I pass on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

in your way of looking at it, someones going to kill the cow for its meat, no since in letting it's go to waste!. i don't think that they kill all the cows they do for the leather, they kill it for the food and the leather is the bi product!. so buy awayWww@FoodAQ@Com
That would be like if you're okay with eating someone's left-over meat, if so, go for it, and owning/wearing peacock feathers would be like if you're comfortable owning a feather pillow!. If you have low iron and B12 then try taking a daily multivitamin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
