Vegetarian and low in iron?!


Question: Vegetarian and low in iron!?
ive been a vegetarian for a few months now and i seem to be low in iron!. i eat plenty of vegetables and legumes!.!.!. i don't know what i should eat to increase the amount of iron i eat
should i just take iron supplement tablets!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians and vegans are no more likely to be iron deficient than meat eaters are!. Just wanted that out of the way because of the haters who will come here just to tell you to eat red meat again!.

It sounds like you're on the right track!. Dark leafy greens and dried beans are among the best sources available!. Make sure to pair your iron sources with sources of vitamin C since it enhances absorbability!. Cook in cast iron; acidy foods like tomatoes, in particular, will draw iron from the pan!.

Before you decide to opt for a supplement, have your iron status checked!. Iron toxicity is dangerous to your health and you don't want to be taking supplemental iron if you're meeting your needs from your diet!.

the spinach theory is actually wrong, it has very low iron, it was calculated wrong but was never corrected!.

Lentils have a huge amount of iron so does parsley!.

don't take pills unless you're sick badly!.

I've been a vegetarian since 1998, and even back then, my dad will make me take liquid form of iron (i!.e!. Ferrol - a product from Guyana) to make up for any loss vitamins/minerals!. Just remember, the darker the vegetable, the better results it will have for your body!.

When I was pregnant, my iron was ''dangerously'' low as the doctor told me!. She said to cook everything as much as possible in an iron cast pot!. So at home, I have both cast iron frying pans and pots!. You can get them at Macy's - Martha Stewart collection!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to be on a multi-vitamin, but you should also contact your doctor about your diet!. Being vegetarian can be a healthy way of life, but not everyone can adjust to it!. I've known people who try it and get very sick!. My son has been vegetarian for 15 years and takes Vit B and a daily multi-vitamin and doesn't have any problems, but he's been at it for a long time!. If he were to start eating meat, it would make him sick!.

Broccoli is an excellent source of iron, I've been a vegan for years and at a blood drive they tested my iron and said I had the best iron out of anyone they saw all day!. They told me it was probably because I eat a lot of broccoli!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You could try
Brown rice, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, sunflower seeds, kidney beans, chickpeas, broccoli, green beans, lima beans, beets, peas, spinach, and watermelon!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you have been tested by a Dr and was told your iron level was low then the Dr should have prescribed iron tablets!.
My Dr put me on prenatal vitamins (even though I am past child bearing age) and then just put me on straight iron!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If your eating a balanced diet you should be getting enough iron, but talk to your doctor about this!. Our bodies store iron so you should be fine even if you were just eating white bread for the last few months!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to replace the iron in your diet that you would normally get from eating meat!. Go and see your local pharmacist and ask him for iron and vitamin supplement tabs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try eating alot more spinach!. Use it in salads, sandwiches, or wherever you use lettuce!. Kale is also exceptionally high in ironWww@FoodAQ@Com
