Why are soy products bad (educated answers please)?!

Question: Why are soy products bad (educated answers please)!?
I'd like to better understand why soy products are now being poo-pooed, when just 8 years ago they were the new rage! Is it the estrogens!? If so, aren't the estrogens found naturally found in a plant able to be properly process in the body (as opposed to the estrogens found in birth control, plastics and margarine, etc!.)
Do the bad effects from soy apply to all soy products, or only the processed products!? Is edemame okay!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I personally don't believe soy is bad!. There is significant phytoestrogen found in plenty of other foods!. Nuts actually have more phytoestrogen, per gram, than soy products do!. Peas, sprouts, wholegrains, broccoli - these all have almost as much!.

The soy controversy mostly arose from a magazine article that Dr!. Mary Enig wrote about ten years ago on soy phytoestrogens!. She is a trained dietitian, but does not believe in most mainstream nutritional advice, and admits so - for instance, she believes that the saturated fats in coconut oil are healthy, and are safe to be consumed by people with heart problems!.

Some people argue that fermented soy products are okay, whereas unfermented are not, some argue that all soy products are unhealthy!. Personally, my common sense says no, considering that the longest-lived people in the world, the Okinawans, eat large amounts of tofu!.

I believe soy can be a problematic food in your diet, but only because of its high allergy rates!. I personally cannot eat soy due to an allergy!. But links to hormone-related cancers!? I personally doubt it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What your reading is dairy and meat industry propaganda!. Soy has plant estrogen not human estrogen and your drinking the stuff not injecting it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For me, the biggest issue is that most soy in the US and UK has been genetically modified, meaning it is no longer a natural food!. It has been spliced with the DNA of all sorts of things-scorpion venom to make the crops more pest resistant, roundup pesticide DNA to ensure that heavy spraying with roundup will kill just the bugs, and not the plant, and the DNA of other, already genetically modified foods!. That all adds up to Frankenfood, as far as I can tell!. Because soy has been so heavily spliced with other species, it is the leading cause of adult onset food allergies!. Since it contains both plant AND animal DNA, it is no longer even vegetarian! Edemame WOULD be a reasonable food, IF you could find it from an heirloom, organic seed that had not been GMO!. And that is almost impossible!. Although its not widely known, even foods that seem natural ARE processed if they come from GMO seeds!. When soy became a popular "health food", Monsanto quickly ensured that they would be the world supplier of their own GMO seeds-and they succeeded!. True organic soy bean seeds are all but impossible to come by!. Some companies market that their soy is organically GROWN, but if it comes from a genetically modified seed, then is is NOT organic, or natural!. I think the whole GMO foods thing is one of the least understood concepts, and one that few people are even aware of!. If you buy ANY commercial produce, you can be sure it has been genetically modified in some way!. Soy is at the very top of the GMO "food chain", so to speak!. Google "roundup ready soy" for some basic info, then take it from there if you are interested in learning the truth about what is called "food" in todays market!. Soy is just to scary to consume, for MANY reasons!. Its also one of the hardest to avoid, since some form or another of soy is in just about everything!. Soy ink is used in most clothes dyes, ink pens, markers, tattoo ink, newspaper ink, etc!. It sure makes life difficult for those of us allergic to soy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Soy can be great for you!. You just shouldn't eat it in excess!. If you eat soy with every meal, it's probably not that great for you!. Even carrots you shouldn't eat in excess!. But in moderation it's good for you!. There are estrogens, but they are natural plant estrogens!. There's also an argument that certain types of soy products are newer and we don't know the effects of them - stuff like soy cheese, fake meat products, etc!. - whereas the types of soy that are eaten in Asian cultures are usually fermented and some of the estrogens neutralized!. Edamame, tofu, soy sauce, etc!. should be fine!. The more processed stuff should be fine, too - just don't overdo it!.

From my understanding, most of the research that says soy is bad is based on lab rats, who have extremely different systems than humans!. The effects that are claimed in rats have not carried over to humans!. And, again, the meat and dairy industry wants you to think this so you'll go back to eating their products!.

If you're worried, though, weed out the most prevalent soy products from your diet!. Use ricemilk instead of soymilk, and eat more nuts and seeds instead of soy meats!.

EDIT: There can be issues with GMO soy!. Buy organic if you're worried about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
