Question: I feel hungry,no energy and sleepy!?
i'm trying to become a lacto-vegetarian!.and i feel like i have no energy and sleepy most of the times!.i'm just starting eating vege foods last week!.i drink milk and eat cheese but it's still the same!.i'm thinking of eating chocolates and ice-cream but i worried there might be eggs in it!.i'm going to see doctor tomorrow so that he can supply me with vitamins and irons that i need!.any vegetarians having the same conditions like me!?if yes,what would you do!? Are you eating a balanced diet!? How often do you exercise!? As a newbie vegetarian it's easy to rely too heavily on dairy products!. Whilst milk does provide protein, it won't fully replace the nutrition in meat!. Dairy products are low in iron!.

Instead, try eating more wholegrains (full of complex carbs- great for energy), nuts, beans, cereals, soy, vegetables and fruits!. Eat a variety of different foods!. Just read your profile and I'm sorry to hear you suffer from low mood!. Make sure you get plenty of B vitamins - peanut butter is full of them!

There are two types of iron: haem iron, and non-haem iron!. ALL iron is quite difficult to absorb, as it's a mineral needed in only trace amounts!. Haem iron is in meat!. Non-haem iron is found in plants!. The iron in plants is a little more difficult to absorb!. That doesn't mean vegetarians lack this mineral though!. Fortified breakfast cereals are good for your iron levels as the iron in it is more easily absorbed than most plant based products!.

Eat something rich in vitamin C at mealtimes,as this vitamin INCREASES iron absorption by 1/3!. (Broccoli supplies both iron AND vitaimn C!)

Eating lots of protein rich foods is good for your energy levels too!. Enjoy a moderate amount of exercise, and speak to a doctor to rule out any nutrient deficiencies!. Your tiredness and sleepiness may not be diet related, it could be that you're stressed, in which case you should take more time by yourself to unwind!.

You say you're sleepy!. So the solution = more sleep! Try putting a little lavendar or geranium oil on your pillow at night!. Or have a cup of chamomile tea before you go to bed!.!.

People who take iron supplements usually recover from low iron!. My [meat eating] uncle was anaemic (not a typo) but after a few months of iron supplementation, he's fine now!.

Don't worry, keep it up!. Why don't you try soy milk, soy ice cream ,soy cheese etc!. They have great flavours, and they're healthy for you!. If you want energy, you should start jogging,slowly, with a friend!. Everyone has something to yak about, and you can do this while running!. As you get fitter you'll get more energy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What is your diet like!? Are you eating enough, and balancing it with the right foods!? There are so many reasons that you could be listless and hungry!. It is easy to blame feeling ill on becoming vegetarian, but be sure that your doctor gives you a full physical, as it is more likely that it is something else since you've only been vegetarian a week!. It is ok to take vitamins and iron, but that is no replacement for a proper balanced diet, so make sure that you are eating right as well!.

Chocolates and icecream are not going to give you energy, there is no nutritional value in junk foods like icecream to do anything for your body!. More likely it would make you more tired, as sugar gives you a quick release of energy and then after an hour you "crash", and will be tired!.

What does your menu look like on an average day!? Are you eating enough whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables(or are you relying on fake meat and pasta for fill the majority of your meals!?)!. Do you start your day with a healthy breakfast!? Are you eating enough at meals!? What is your sleep schedule/how many hours of sleep do you get a night!? These are just a few questions that you need to answer to know what is actually wrong with you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should try to enjoy the wholesome goodness of some carrots!. It's a little known fact they have a special, wholesome chemical in them that makes people sleepy!. Eating them will allow you to get fully rested!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
