I am trying to be vegan but how can I cut out cheese and ice cream?!?!

Question: I am trying to be vegan but how can I cut out cheese and ice cream!?!!?
I've been a vegetarian for 2 yrs and I am trying to become vegan, but I eat a lot of mac and cheese and ice cream!. And I know I gotta cut that out to be a vegan!. Can someone give me some good tips on how to stop wanting cheese and ice cream!? I know stores sell vegan ice cream but where could I get it!? Publix, nor Target or Walmart has vegetarian ice cream!. If they do, then I haven't searched good enough!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
you dont have to cut it out!
there are alternatives out there like soy cheese wich tastes remarkably like the real thing and ricedream (rice icecream), soydelisious (soy icecream), and tofutie cuties (soy icecream sandwiches) that are tasty alternatives to dairy products!. they sell these thing at most helth food stores or go to your local farmers market and see what you can find!. but if you are not ready to give it up dont force it eventually you will stop craving it!. and if that never happends it might not be the right thing for you!. take your time and go with what feels right!.

hope i could help!

It depends on where you live!. Look for a local natural foods store!. As far as chains go, Hannaford and Wegmans have a good vegetarian/vegan/organic selection!.

As for totally cutting out dairy though!.!.!. make sure you're getting enough calcium and other nutrients!. I know that's not your question really, but make sure you take supplements when you do cut out dairy!.

also consider: You want to be vegan out of respect for animals!. If you get family-farmed organic milk/eggs, where the cows/chickens happily graze in grassy pastures without being fed growth hormones and antibiotics, then maybe you don't have to stop eating dairy!. That's how I think about it, animal products are okay so long as they come from a place that respects the animals!. For instance, Shelburne Farms makes great cheese, and their cows are probably the most well-cared for bovines on the planet!. And I've got friends who keep hens as pets and eat their unfertilized eggs!.

Not that I'm trying to convince you not to be vegan!! Www@FoodAQ@Com

*well enough
sorry it was bothering me haha

try cutting things out slowly
first cut out things you can live without
and then try finding the vegan options(although i don't eat those things because they aren't very healthy, but it's better than eating the real stuff) a&p has it and if you have a whole foods in your area

full supermarket(so like places that don't also sell clothes and other stuff) have vegan options to must things

and ignore these people!.!.!. being vegan is one of the healthiest things you can do!.!.!. the diary industry does hurt the cowWww@FoodAQ@Com

I don't even know how you can cut out ice cream!.!.!.lol, but if there is vegan ice cream that helps! It is going to be probably really hard to find it though, You can personally go to the stores and ask them if they have it!. If they say no, you can ask them to research it on their computer, they have this thing where they can type something in, and it shows all of the stores that have that product!.

On the cheese thing, or just how to be a vegan, you can always read books, books always help!.

Kroger, Walmart actually does have some!. I'm sure that there is a health food store somewhere in your town right!?

You can't just stop wanting to eat that food!. There are moments where I still crave a chicken or other meat, yet I know better than to eat it!. I have to use willpower and tell myself NO!. I have tasted it and will always remember that I did like it at one point, but I know better than to eat it now!.

Do you really want to go vegan!? Sounds like you will be depriving yourself of a lot!. If you want it maybe being a vegetarian is enough for you! Don't make yourself crazy!. What are the reasons you would be cutting out dairy!. Obviously if you like it that much!.!.!.!.you should re-think thinks!. If you REALLY want to go vegan then you have to stop!. Theres no way to get around it unless you just do all soy stuff!.!.!.!. that stuff tastes icky at least to me it does!.

You love animals but drinking milk isnt killing the animal!. Cows produce milk!. Just like human mothers produce milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

really just as soon as you stop and you know that you really want to be vegan!.!. its not that hard!. After the first week I no longer even desired ice cream or cheese!.
Why don't you try a grocery store for vegan ice cream!? Like stop and shop or something!? Soy Delcious and tofutti are really good ice creams! and i believe they make veggie (soy) cheese, but i haven't looked really for that!.

I used to LOVE cheese but I don't even feel like it anymore!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

The real question you should be asking yourself is WHY you want to be vegan in the first place!.

It seems like it's not something that's going to come naturally to you!. Dairy makes up a substantial part of your diet!. So why do you feel the need to get rid of it!?

If it's for an animal-friendly reason, you should reconsider!. Milk cows are treated REALLY well these days!. Most milking is done by machines that gauge how much the cows need to be milked and focus on making sure the cows are very very comfortable!. In fact, cows actually feel pain if they do not get milked!

If it's because you personally don't think milk sounds like a cool thing to put in your mouth, then go for it! But it is hard to do and nothing's gonna make it that much easier!.!.!. If you REALLY want it, you'll be able to do it through sheer will power!.!.!. but that only works if it's really really what you want!.!.!.

Ultimately my advice is this!.!.!. Don't do it for any reason other than if you think it's what's right for you!. Being vegan is hard and doesn't ever get easier really, so don't force it! Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cheese is tough, because there is no good vegan substitute that I know of!. But there is a decent substitute for ice cream called So Delicious (I believe) as well as "Cuties" ice cream sandwiches!. The cheese I've tried is nasty, though!. It took a while to get that flavor out of my mouth and throat hole!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
