Question: Question for people who are raising vegan kids: What do you feed them for dinner that won't !.!.!.!?
leave them hungry an hour after they eat!?

I have children with voracious appetites, especially my older daughter who also cannot eat wheat/gluten because of her autism!. One of the problems I'm always running into when I try to get my family on a vegan diet is that, well, a) I don't know what to make, but b) even when I decide on something, my older daughter is whining and crying for more to eat an hour or so after dinner, or on a weekend when she doesn't have school to wear her out, she'll wake up in the middle of the night because she's hungry!.

I need to solve this problem because we have a lot of lifestyle problems related to how we eat!. Your help is much appreciated!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can totally relate to what you are going through!. I am allergic to wheat/soy/corn/dairy (commercial dairy)/nuts/fish/meat/poultry and have intolerances to a bunch of other things!. If you would like to email me, I can give you a link to some web groups where you can find loads of recipes for foods free of the top 8 allergens, and many of them are vegan or vegetarian (Myself and my 13 year old daughter are vegetarian-we are vegan in many regards, but we consider raw milk from our cows and eggs from happy chickens to be a gift, so we have no issues with consuming them) I can give you lots of vegan recipes, if you would like!. I would love to know how your little girl us doing on her diet-I know many cases of autism are seeing dramatic improvements on GF diets!. Good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

why the hell would anyone name their kid "morpheus"!? lol, that would be a cool name to have for like a day or two, plus the fact that you're forcing him to be vegan and he's gonna be skinny as a rail, i know i would kick his *** if he went to my high school!.

your kid wasn't even born and you allready did him a great disservice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i feel your pain!.

i can eat a pound of tofu, (yes!) and be hungry again in a couple of hours!.

the only things that keep me full for a while are beans and whole grains, but these are not terribly appetizing choices!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For now !.!.!.!.!.MILK is the answer, not necessarily cows milk!.!.!.!.!.!.you can opt for soy!.!.!.!.always have nuts and soy chunks kept up as a snack for her!.!.!.!.trust me a handful of nuts and a glass of soy milk is more than enough to keep her fullWww@FoodAQ@Com

To increase the calories, try frying as much as possible!.

I agree with the poster above!. Given the fact that your kids are growing and one of them has autism, I would not feed them an extreme diet!. I believe a well balanced omnivorous diet would be the best approach!. From the evidence I've read, a Vegan diet is both unhealthy and unnatural!.

I'd include not only eggs and dairy in their diet, but fish and fish oil supplements!. Animal based Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fro proper brain development and maintenance and eggs and fatty fish is rich in it!. There is even evidence that it can help treat the symptoms of autism!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Omega-3_fat!.!.!.

And despite claims to the contrary, the forms of Omega 3s in nuts and flax seed just won't cut it!.

As much as you want to save animals or whatever, your children's health and welfare should come first!. If it means feeding them animal foods then so be it!. When they get older perhaps you can then go back to a vegan diet!. But until then, imposing such an extreme diet on them is - in my opinion - tantamount to child abuse!.

P!.S!. So I'm "intellectually arrogant" and "offensive"!. It doesn't mean I'm wrong!. More and more new research is showing that consumption of cholesterol, saturated animal fats and Omega 3s are vital to human health!.

The PCRM is a PeTA front group!. That alone should disqualify them as being an authority on anything!.

I don't deny you love your kids, but your orthorexia isn't helping them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A fact of life is that plant foods are less dense in nutrients than animal foods, so one must eat greater bulk!. Some people, especially children, simply can't get enough into their stomachs in three meals a day to satisfy their needs!. You should either given then 4-6 meals a day or given them pockets full of nuts, raisins, etc!., to nibble on between meals!.
But a vegan diet for a growing child - especially a special-needs child - is a big, big crap shoot!. Maybe he/she is getting enough nourishment, and maybe not!. Your best bet is to switch to an omnivore diet till the kids are past their growth period - say 16 for girls and 18 for boys!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nothing will fill up a vegan child like the wholesome goodness of carrots!. Serve them this wholesome carrot salad and see the results:

Wholesome carrot salad
Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 pounds peel & sliced wholesome carrots
1 sliced onion
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup sugar

Directions:

Parboil the wholesome carrots until soft but still crunchy!. Drain and set aside!. Add sliced onion to the carrots!. Mix the remaining ingredients in another bowl!. Pour over carrots and onions, mix well!. Refrigerate or serve warm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't reccomend feeding children a vegan diet!.!.!. it just isn't going to meet their needs unless you are extremely careful and they eat everything you tell them to!.!.!. if you are set on making them vegan, you should feed them ALOT, alot more than you would if they were omnivores!.!.!. Could you at least let them drink milk!? That doesn't hurt the cows, and it is rich in nutrients that no fake milk can offer!.!.!. whole milk would be best for your kids!.!.!. if you must make them vegans, just be sure they are getting enough nutrients, protien, and fatWww@FoodAQ@Com

A large baked potato stuffed full of delicious vegan produce – fried onion, mashed avocado, sautéed mushrooms, (vegan cheese), home-made tomato mixed bean salsa “baked bean” mixture and a side salad or garlic bread!.

I had two stuffed large baked potatoes at Friday lunch time and was so stuffed that I missed dinner and went to sleep at 9PM clutching my still bulging belly!.

So a couple of these at dinner time should do the trick until morning!.

If she awakes in the middle of the night after a late feast of baked potatoes, there is possibly something wrong!. In that case, a Green Smoothie drink, should last her until morning!.

also if not, perhaps you should check your daughter for some sort of underlying disorder (i!.e!.) leaky gut or worms!.
