Question: Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to eat a vegetarian diet when my husband and child are not veg!.!?
I just recently became convinced that eating meat the way it is produced these days is inhumane, but my husband of 22 years is not going to give up his steak and I don't expect him to!. But how can I cook tasty meals for him but still stay true to my personal feelings!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegetarian (now working on vegan) and my husband is a meat eater extraordinaire!. He grew up in the Midwest, so you can only imagine his love for beef and pork!. Anyway, we decided when I went veg that I would cook vegetarian meals and he could cook his own meat item on the side and add it in!. It was a good compromise because if he didn't feel like cooking there was still a full meal available to him, but on nights when he really wanted meat he could be an adult and cook it himself!. I know that as women many people expect that we will 'take care of' our husbands, preparing their meals and such!.!.!.but I think it's only fair that if we cook a full meal they can throw a piece of chicken in the oven if they want it that badly!. I'm not saying your husband will LIKE cooking for himself, but this situation isn't the kind where one of you gives in!.!.!.it's going to have to be a compromise!.
It actually worked out really well for us!.!.!.!.!.my husband got sick of cooking the meat for himself and now he only eats meat a couple of times a week with dinner!. He keeps lunch meats and other convenience items in the house for when he really wants it!.
It's a great compromise and it has worked out well for us!. Good luck to you, and don't get discouraged, it's completely possible for both of you to be happy with your new diet!.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this also got my husband and I to cook together, which has been a lot of fun!. Instead of me cooking for an hour while he watches television in the other room, no we can have fun together!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cook for your husband and child separately their meat dishes!. And cook separately for yourself!. But you can also prepare for them veggie dishes, as side dishes or as including a bit of meat!. Fish and chicken are usually the healthy choices as regards meat!.!.!. sausages, bacon may contain unhealthy chemicals!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My mom and sister are vegetarian, but I, like your husband, love my meat!. What my mom does is prepares meat dishes that can be easily altered to be, well, meat-less!. For instance, my mom will make wraps, and grill chicken for me, but put all that vegan stuff in hers!. Or she'll make me pasta with beef and a sauce, but instead, she'll put pesto, or other vegetarian alternatives!. Slowly, though, introduce them to the world of meatless eating!. Don't try to convert them, just try a dish without meat one day!. Honestly, some things she eats, although I love steak, are pretty darn good!. I'm sure you can compromise to something everyone will enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can try using quorn products i often make lasagna, shepherds pie, pies, pasta, stir fries etc with this and my meat eating friends and family either dont know the difference or just love it anyway they dont mind!.

other than that i would tell your husband if he continues to eat what you are morally opposed to then he can make it himself and if it were me, id say he can buy it himself too!

soy products are also very good for lowering cholesterol and general health and well being, quorn can be great for weight loss too ( some of their producst that is) as they are incredibly filling and contain very few calories!

good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I do this daily!. What I do is: if I'm making a meat pie, stew, lasagne etc!.!.!.!.!. I'll make a veg portion for myself before I add the meat, so it cuts down on kitchen mess!. I also tend to freeze individual size portions of my favourite veggie dishes so they're easily accessible!. I'm lucky in the fact that my children like veggie food so more often than not they'll eat whatever I eat so it works out well for me!. Maybe you could try feeding your child veggie dishes on occassion!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

i cook two separate meals normally and it works very well!. i make two casseroles, one with meat in it and the other one is exactly the same but without meat!. if i do meat and roast potatoes i put mine in a separate dish from the meat!.i make shepherds pie for me using soya mince and the same for hubby using beef !. i hate touching his meat but i cant expect him to change so i just do it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't state that eating animals is inhumane, only eating these animals that are suffering in today's slaughterhouses!. If this is the case, purchase your meat from farms, as well as free-range beef and chicken!.

This way, everyone can still eat the meat, and you can stay true to your feelings!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can make lots of stuff taste like meat!. Buy liquid smoke and Worcester sauce!. They'll turn tofu and portobello mushrooms into bacon and steak!. Yummy!. Whole Foods has a great veggie chili mix as well as Boca Burgers!. also, falafel is a very filling food found at Whole Foods and Middle Eastern restaurants!. I was a veggie, years ago and always cooked my own food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
